Ford is storing our info and the reservation number in a database somewhere.
More than likely there is also an incremental counter field in the table and an inserted date/time field.
So whatever meaning they are assigning to the reservation code itself does not have to relate to the counter or time stamp at all. The reservation codes could be entirely random and a simple lookup in the table would give them the actual counter/time stamp value for our reservation.
One reason for doing this would be to remove the possiblilty of us (or the press from) decrypting the reservation codes to determine actual order volume or positions.
