His signature pointed me to it.
I am a slave to the bolt on because I can't weld worth a darn.
Not all welds need to be pretty. But there is a very solid reason why ladies love a good welder. 100% penetration, 100% of the time.

FWIW, i've invested in a very nice angle grinder and the unbelievably awesome 3M Cubitron discs (987C) to be specific. These discs will change your life.

From this: Some hardcore weld-porn shot right here! (or not)

To this: Some etching primer and it's ready to go. Notice that 100% penetration!

I’m past my prime... and pretty much just wanna be done these days, but still

@395N
Look at you and your fancy Tig! Looks like great work. I'm a mig or flux core guy. Something about the extra danger and injury sings to my soul.

Happy with some off-topic s-talking in my build thread. Post #1 will get updated as updates actually happen.

FWIW: Here's a welding table being made on a welding table. The pro table is a buddies, i'll be cribbing the second table design for myself in a few months but won't be using 5" I beams for legs and thus not using angle iron. We had fun with this one, his shop is insanely well equipped, but when your profession is welding, you have to have the tools for the job.

Love the table. I deleted my posts, I’m sorry for not being considerate of your thread, it won’t happen again.

Oh, nice work by the way.

Allow myself to quote.... myself.....

No offenses taken at all! It can all be circled back to Bronco stuff if we try hard enough.
First welding project on Bronco will be to see if I can fabricate some reinforcement plates under the top bar of the front bumper. The steel Ford used is thinner than a Yoder!

Edit: You should post back up your weld porn! It will help somebody sometime to see what others are doing, perhaps as inspiration, perhaps just to say how much better they are at something.

The paint on the car now is only at year 14 and it's failed badly (while still looking spry in photographs!).
How is it failing?
Lacquer, enamel, urethane???? Base/clear?
and what was the most likely culprit?
Garage Queen or did it live outside in the sun.....errrr, Seattle ....out in the fog and rain? LOL

A full car spray at Maaco will run you over $5,000 around here if they are knocking down the paint at all (zero body work). Add a few thousand if you're going down to metal and expect not to have wavy panels.

Typically speaking, on a car you're expecting to have for the next 20 years, going with the cut-rate/cut-corners paint job isn't always the best decision. The paint on the car now is only at year 14 and it's failed badly (while still looking spry in photographs!).
Out on Maui the cheapest body shop I could find quoted me $7000 for the rust work and a repaint on our 1980 Eagle Wagon. That was 2 years ago before my wifes cancer. I tried doing the body work and got about half of it in decent shape while we were fighting the cancer. Was hoping to get it on the road again for our wedding but the thin metal work was beyond me and my equipment. Now she's through treatments and healing up. The pandemic blessed us with the stimulus checks that we are saving for the body man to get our bird shinning again. But yeah I took the Eagle around town a couple of times different body shops I got $12k, $15k, and even a guy with a tiny shop and seemingly not much going on telling me it would take atleast $25,000 for just the body work!!!

Maui is crazy expensive for some stuff.

Lol I already have boxes of stuff to go on the bronco as soon as it gets home. I have all my rock lights, communications, trail trash bag, windshield sunshade, and I'm making a multi-tire inflate/deflate system. This is just a few of the things I have. Welcome to the world of offroading where your wallets always empty. Lol
The multi-tire inflate system is so nice, my brother got me one and it saves time and let's you relax as all the tires inflate. Totally worth it if you do much off roading.

Awesome to hear the wife is on the mend, cars can always wait. A noble attempt to be sure, having the car done up in anticipation of her being able to enjoy it.

You just have to figure out how to make a 15% raise every year to out-pace the rising costs of services for them! HA HA HA!!!!

It was a custom one he made, used air line for air brakes and little connectors. He got the parts from amazon and put them together.

Few Months? A good paint shop and about say $3,500 probably safely gets you there. Look at how much time I saved you. You could probably get it for a lot less, but as you pointed out that would take time and effort and tools......:p
See there you have the old trusty triangle of contract work.
you mentioned his timeframe, “good” paint shop, and cost.
Time vs $ vs quality.
sometimes you can pick 2 of 3 but never all 3.
I don’t do cheap quality jobs, so what’s left is the other two.
A good paint shop is not going to do a restore job including bodywork and paint for $3500. Especially in a couple of months.
no one, ever, that I’ve ever known.
Materials alone for that job, strictly paints, primers, activators, clears is going to run at least $1500 plus. Not counting body materials, sandpaper, masking, buffing, etc.
a lot of people overcharge drastically for paint work. But some don’t and it’s still not cheap if you care about the paints and you care about the quality and customer satisfaction a year or 10 years down the road.

My information is a few years out of date (and not retail) and I appreciate the updates. My point was more just spend the $ and let leave it to the pros. Time > $
