ROAM 4' Beach Awning on Trailrax Half-Rack

I mounted a Roam 4' awning off the back of my TrailRax Half-Rack. For sitting on the beach with the car backed up to the Surf-line. Kept the profile low. Seems to work well.

I mounted mine low, the bottom flush with the roof, in the hopes of avoiding wind noise. The rack already produces wind noise, anyway. I just installed this, haven't been on the interstate yet, but @55mph, no noise. I've had this awning 2 years, never got to installing until today!

Nice work, @Dugout! Great minds think alike! Would you show how you attached yours, a close-up pic? Since the Roam and trailrax mounts don't line up, I pondered it for awhile. Would like to see what you did! Yours looks higher than mine.

used a bracket, plus aligned one of the holes to use a carrier nut/bolt.
need to get some stainless steel washers though.

Thanks. Makes sense, I see how you did it. You carry boxes so yours can be higher anyway. That stainless steel angle bracket is tough, I went through 3, quarter-inch drill bits, drilling 2 holes!

I didn’t have to drill, but that does sound brutal.

I’ve got the same on mine! Really like the small form factor but they seem to use really small rivits. Had them fail on the legs and had to drill in a self tapping screw

Fuel on the drivers side, recovery boards and shovel on passenger. FSR tent and some lights on the rack

Now someone needs to find the right shorter pistons for the glass if you flush mount it vs up high. I am going to flush mount mine like this so it at least fits in the garage.

Mine is flush to the roof so I can easily fit in parking garages. Yes, the glass rests against the fabric, but it also hits the two metal horizontal support poles, which prevents the glass from hurting the fabric. I'll know more after my first beach trip with this in a couple of weeks.
