Within 4k miles, the Bronco told me I was at 3% Oil Life...

last oil change was three months ago

I'd only done a few off-road days so im unsure why it would have been so short.

Mine is the same. My guess is that because it still on the original oil and it was built 4/22. So age not mileage.

If your Bronco is a 2022 it was built nearly a year ago. The system tracks time as well as mileage and driving style. If the oil is a year old it considers it to be done.

It’s because of how long the oil has been in the vehicle. Should change the oil once a year even if you only drive a few hundred miles each year. Ford recommends oil changes at ever 5k even though the ford pass app says differently

My first oil life barely made it to 5k, Bronco was on the OG dirt mountin for a while.

At 10k, I had ~50% life left.

So as others have mentioned its a distance and time thing that is used to calculate oil life.

I havent gone more than 4500mi between services on mine. Aug 5th will be 1yr owning and I just turned 17k miles. My 4th service is due just over 18k. If you plan to keep it long term (over 100k miles) I highly advise changing it every 5k or so to get longevity out of it. I work in an independent euro repair shop and majority of our cars say 10k up to 15k between services. If you follow those guidelines youll be replacing timing chains and turbos around 80-100k. Manufacturers only design the cars to get past warranty. After that they want you to buy a new car.

It will time out after one year. My wife only drives locally, and her F-150 always hits the 1-year timer well before she comes anywhere close to the 9-12000 miles the system normally gives you.

Time, distance, “cold” starts (when engine has cooled to ambient air temperature), short trips, high operating temperatures, cold ambient temperatures, hard acceleration, stop & go traffic…
Lots of factors get incorporated into oil life algorithms.

Let’s be thankful that the computer is watching out for us. If it says change the oil then that is good & helpful — the engineers are factoring in something we aren’t considering.
