Hey guys…. We had a great group of Broncos this morning out at Uwharrie in central North Carolina….

I was the only guy rolling on 33s in a stock Black Diamond.

Got myself stuck on a rock, and one of the guys used a kinetic rope to pull me off…but when my left front tire caught traction…the tie rod snapped like a chicken bone.

Thanks to @Mountains2Metal for having the @BroncoBuster tie rod braces to get me off the trail…

And then thanks for @Tricky Dick and @Copperhorse73 for installing a 2004 Ranger tie rod to get me home.

Great lesson on never wheeling alone.

Thanks! I’m trying to get into the dealer this week to get a proper part replacement and re-alignment.

I have the BroncBuster braces for my tie rods. I do carry a 2004 Ford Ranger inner tie rod and a 2021 Ford Bronco inner tie rod in case anyone in our group runs into trouble. The Ranger one from Oreilly cost $28 and the Bronco one from Ford cost $95

Hey guys:

Wanted to post a small update. So my Ford dealer ordered the new tie rod...said it could take "up to two weeks" on the part...but they have me in for July 6 for the repair (as well as the two service bulletins on my windshield and my child safety locks)...

They did say I could bring it in for alignment in 2 days on the 1st....

do ya'll think I need to do that if I'm gonna keep driving it until the new OEM tie rod is put on?

@Tricky Dick and @Copperhorse73 what do ya'll think?

Also, not confident they are gonna cover this under warranty.

I think Tricky got you pretty dead nuts aligned. if it’s still driving straight with hands off the wheel, I wouldn’t worry about it until they put the new one on.

Ok so the dealer closest to me in Gastonia can have the part in a couple
days….their labor is $155 to put in.

the alignment is $129.

id like to save the $155

Y’all think I can get it on myself ? I did not see y’all take it off….

Honestly I feel like I got it really freaking close and I'd drive it if it's not twitchy. Though I'd love to see the before and after on the alignment.

Did anyone comment on our ingenuity?

You could order it yourself and have an independent alignment shop do the work, should be a good bit cheaper.

Hey so I just ordered it through the dealer that is closest to my house it was $82 and it’s supposed to be here Friday.

Do you happen to know if the new tie rod would come with that clamp that you reused or should I order a new clamp and do you happen to know the part number for that?

I don't think it will. You might check with the shop you choose, they may have universal ones.

When you first took it off, did you have to cut it? Is that why it's hard to re-use?

It has little teeth and they deform easily, it's hard to get them just right afterwards. It's a disposable part that should only be a few bucks.

gotcha, ok thanks. I'll see what i can do about that part.

So....what's the "trick" to kind of get it eye-balled in line, just long enough to get it to the dealer for alignment ?

Count the turns when you unscrew the outer from the inner. Install the outer to the new inner the same number of turns. That will get you close enough to get it on the alignment rack.
