On my drive earlier today, I paid attention and it changed many times when turning onto a new road without a speed limit sign in sight. Therefore it has to be running off GPS...

My '17 Mazda CX-5 used both GPS and the camera, and I would guess that most vehicles do it that way. The Mazda also had a HUD and it would display stop signs and such that it saw as you approached. That car was the best bang for the buck I ever owned ;)

TBH, why should I believe you other than one of the actual real-life, shook hands, Ford engineers who built it?
Just because someone engineered it doesn't mean it got used (I know this from experience). So both could be right in a sense. For me, I would assume some map data would need to be used, since someone turns onto roads all the time without a sign anywhere to be seen. Ford could've disabled the cameras because of (fill-in-the-blank reason) and still been able to show it from the GPS/map data.

Instead of acting like a jerk, why don't you go out and try it for yourself?

Wasn't trying to be a jerk, but I guess it did sound like that. Apologies. I was just asking for clarification on what led you to believe that there was not a camera as a data input.

I suppose I could follow behind someone in a truck with various Speed limit signs, and have him/her hold them up, to see if anything changes.

All good.

While your idea is an interesting one, just find a road that doesn't have posted signs and see what is shows in your Bronco.

I have a place on my commute that is devoid of speed limit signs, but the limit changes from 55 -> 40 -> 50 and the Bronco automatically changes to reflect this. The cops set up speed traps in that section all the time.

Omg, I think mine does the same thing. Your speaking of the Google maps that comes with the vehicle? I just never put two and two together to observe this. It reads 30 even when a 50 sign is in view.
My 2022 volvo. Had a similar problem but was corrected with an update.
I'm driving a my23 big bend, mid package 4.27 rear locking. I will follow this thread. Thanks

When driving your vehicle the car reads the speed limit signs and posts it on your screen so you know what it is wherever you are.My previous bronco did it and so does my2021 f150
Edit: I and 27 other people before me said the same thing. 😁

I thought it was just using data from the nav system that included speed limit information. I thought for sure I remembered a time when I was on a road where the speed limit had been changed but the screen was still showing the old limit (meaning a road where it had previously been posted 45, but was now posted 40, for example).

Just went on an hour drive - mix of backgrounds and smaller highways - 25 to 55 mph and I would say the on dash speed limit display was accurate about 25% of the time. Sometimes too high, sometimes too low.

Wherever the data is coming from, it is extremely inaccurate and unreliable. Ford needs to give us the ability to remove the Speed Limit from the dashboard display.

I love the sign thing - it's off for sure. Or maybe I drive too fast.

I didn't even know this speed display thing is a feature, perhaps not available on my base base? Or maybe because I have my manual trans base setup as old school operation with no chimes, alerts, connectivity etc.

I believe I've seen a forscan change that affects this exact thing. it gives you a choice of GPS data or Camera data, and even a "blend" of the both. ( one is likely default if the other sends no data)

y'all... y'all have speed limit signs that come up on your dash?

is this a trim package specific thing because i definitely do not have that (it does show up on the map if i'm using navigation, but never on my dash area)

Yes this can be set in Forscan! The Bronco comes from the factory set to GPS only. There is no debate here it is 100% fact. But you can use Forscan to set speed limit recognition to “fusion” and it will use camera as well. Like most other Fords.

It's reliant on having the built in navigation. My 23 had navigation removed because of a chip shortage, so no speed limit sign reading for me.
