Such a weird thing to even think about! I guess I'm a poser cause I leave them on, but I keep extras in the recovery gear bag in case I gotta daisychain straps or winch ropes, and I keep one on my strap to connect to a treehugger. TBH no matter how many of those things I have I am always 1 short. I don't color them in any way cause I use them on all vehicles. ALWAYS antisieze the threads when brand new, and periodically afterwards (typically part of my pre-trip routine...along w/checking winch function) I never noticed them rattle

I’d just go black I think because velocity blue would be hard to match unless someone knows a company making them…
Kingdom Offroad sells blue recovery gear that is very close to the Velocity Blue. I purchased my recovery gear to match my Bronco. Vain? Yes. Happy? Also yes.

All they time. With the rubber bushings that come with them they are tight enough to not move and cause rattling.

The sun is not a problem at all. But humidity, salt, etc. do fun things to unprotected metal parts, such as the threads, which are bare. If you've ever dealt with a seized bolt, you wouldn't want to have to deal with that again. But then again, for those who just put them on for a look, they won't have to worry about it. 🙂 The easy answer is, if rust is a problem in your area, it will be a problem for this.
I've never seen one that couldn't be knocked loose with a hitch pin or screwdriver through the hole in the pin or a pair of pliers and that wasn't stuck from being tightened down with a tool or not backed off before pulling on it.

I personally like the look/added function. I keep mine on my Gladiator full-time since I replaced the plastic bumper with steel and lost the Red OEM tow hooks.

I'm still waiting on a 2DR Badlands since 2021  (RIP Sasquatch PKG), but I'll definitely be putting some on it as well.

In my worthless opinion, they make the 4-door Broncs look different than an Expedition, etc...

Cheers! 🍻

Edit: Forgot to say, I also keep recovery gear separately, so I don't feel a need to remove them.

I keep mine on all the time, they're just functional decorations basically. I have soft shackles for when I need them.

I don't listen to music at all in my vehicles so if the shackles rattled all the time, it would drive me crazy. If there's a way to keep them tight with no rattle then I would go for it. You can hear Jeeps with shackles coming from miles away.
you and my wife are the only humans I’ve heard of who don’t listen to music in the car. Driving + music is one of the most enjoyable experiences in my life. Y’all are weird.

As for noise, I’m dropping about 5k into a monster stereo for this, so I doubt I’ll hear it.

Shackles belong is your gear bag, these color coordinated expensive decorations, are the lasted version of Truck Nutz. As always you do you.
Agreed. Nothing says "mall crawler" like shackles on a bumper.

If the shackle is snug enough to not unscrew the pin and lose it, then it's too tight for recovery use.

Recovery gear should be in your door pocket, center console, under/behind the drivers seat, etc...within arms reach while buckled. All of my rigs have their recovery gear quickly accessible without removing my seat belt, so I can hand a winch controller, D-ring or soft shackle, tree saver, kinetic rope, etc out the window.

I mean where would I hook my winch hook to?🤷‍♂️

unnamed (48).jpg
Actually, a Factor55 Ultrahook would be perfect for your setup....no need for the hook you have, flush with the fairlead, protects the winch rope from damage/exposure, etc. Keep the D-rings inside and at the ready for any recovery.

BTW: always test the winch before you wheel, can't count the number of people I know who are excited to use their winch for the first time, only to discover a bad connection from lack of use.
