The Base model doesn't work that way.

If you hit the door lock button with the fob inside, then shut the door, you'll get a double-honk.

I usually keep my fob with me but there are times when people go hiking, biking, kayaking, running etc. when they don't want the fob bouncing around and possibly getting lost in a river, lake or a 10 mile trail. Or a quarter mile trail for that matter.

The Ford documentation says that they can't be changed. Maybe you could put together a tutorial for the rest of us showing how to do it.

Yeah they seem to always say that. I've been running the black plastic version on my Focus forever. It takes a bit of disassembly, but once the battery is dead you don't really have much to lose. I find it best to remove it from the vehicle first.

Still have the same 5th unit on the Ranger. It's been dead for over a year now.

Rumor is that the newest version (after the 3rd TSB on the same part) is flawless, so we're hoping they warranty out the 5th unit so we get to hit the half-dozen mark.
