Wanted to relay an interesting conversation I had yesterday with a Tire Store Manager (Not a local shop but a chain store). Picked up a set of Mickey Thompson Canyon's in 17x9 for my G6. Went in to order 315 70R 17's. Store Manager said, no, we can not put a wider tire than 11 inches on those rims and 315's are 12 inch tires. I said, that's the factory sized tire that came on the truck with 17x8.5 rims. He said, I was wrong. So, out came our phones and google searches. After a minute, he said, you are right. However, according to our standards we are not suppose to put anything more than 2" wider than the rim width. He made a phone call, explained the situation, to what I assumed was a regional super, came back to me and said he would do it as it was factory but I would have to sign a waiver.
That being said, he price matched a set of tires to the lowest on line price, something he also had to document because it was above his "authority" to do due to the price difference. So, soon as they come in, we will get them put on the truck.
Just an FYI, in case anyone ever questions putting stock tires on stock rims.
