@RNC is dropping wisdom here. I've done this twice with insurance on totaled vehicles. I asked them to send me the comps they used. 2 of 3 of them were listed at local dealerships when I searched the VINs. Little did insurance know I had contacts at both dealers. 1 told me the vehicle was so garbage it went right to auction and they only took it in on trade to push new inventory. 2 dealer told me the insurance report pricing was wrong and sent me info where it had sold for far more than the comp report indicated. My wife is a claims adjuster for total vehicle loss. I've learned three things; Always have your own Comps. Never accept the first offer. Pay for better coverage.
Don't try Costco then.welp, after reading this, I'm off to check my policy to see if it has an appraisal clause & also to learn what this costco setup is. My policy has been getting more expensive the last couple years. After a solid decade of nothing, I had a speeding ticket about 18 months ago, hit a deer last July & had to get a windshield fixed in October. can't wait to see what my renewal cost will be next month...
Wait, is Ford no longer making the 2.7 OBX?2.7 OBX owner here. I cry at the thought of a total loss on such a beast, now that you can't buy one new. Find a good local body shop and have him give you an estimate for repairs--and consider buying it from the insurance company. Sure, it'll have a salvage title. Eh. That's a problem only if you don't expect to keep it. If you're keeping it, though, consider that.
Insurance can never understand the rarity and value of my (well, my wife's) 2.7 OBX with 4A, rear locker, and AUX switches. And roast interior.
ah, no, sorry, I misspoke.Wait, is Ford no longer making the 2.7 OBX?
Get the California Department of Insurance involved. Get comparables example, cars being sold with the same trim, mileage, etc. Also like you said get a 3rd party appraiser involved. Have a body shop be willingly to sign a final supplement once they have confirmed there’s no hidden damage. So you’re insurance isn’t worried they’ll ask for more money once repairs start. I recently had my big bend declared a total loss but got the DOI involved and had a body shop help me and a 3rd party appraiser involved. 2021 Big bend ended up being valued ~$36,000 with 45,000 miles and repairs costing $19,540. It’s getting repaired as we speak. I couldn’t let that Anti matter blue go lolHey everyone—looking for some insurance advice— I got into a solo accident on the highway a few weeks ago and insurance (CSAA) has declared a total loss.
Pretty surprised by this since there wasn’t major visible structural damage (one side mirror ripped off, some scratches, windshield busted, but nothing major obvious), also the airbags never went off….
Anyways, the CCC report came through and my car is being compared to a 2.3L (mine is 2.7) and a Big Bend (mine is Outer Banks), so I’m not confident in the numbers.
Tried to google more similar cars but can’t find any source to show me what they’re actually selling at and not just listings, and alternative comps have to be sold cars.
Considering invoking appraisal clause but wanted to ask here and see if anyone’s had experience with this or wants to look over my CCC report and see if it’s worth my time. Or alternatively if anybody knows a good source for finding sold price?
Thanks in advance.
In a 2-door, no.Wait, is Ford no longer making the 2.7 OBX?
Costco is not an insurance Carrier...Don't try Costco then.
After reading through this thread I went and tried Costco myself. Well, my 19 year old is on my policy, and after he had a speeding ticket (8mph over) about 15 months ago, when I got to the end to get my quote it said something like "We can't offer you auto insurance due to the following: Speeding ticket"
And I hear you on rates going up every year... We were with NJM for 15+ years and that's all they did the last 5, raise my rates. When my kid got his license, they wanted to jack me up over $6500 for 3 vehicles... I've since gone to Progressive, best rate I can get and the most coverage.![]()
That goes without saying. But Costco, like BJ's, like a bunch of other stores do have deals with certain insurance companies to "hopefully" offer you a better rate. And all I was trying to say was, whoever Costco has this deal with, well they don't like things like tickets and/or accidents on your record and would not offer insurance because of that.Costco is not an insurance Carrier...
I have the same OBX, is it really that rare though?2.7 OBX owner here. I cry at the thought of a total loss on such a beast, now that you can't buy one new.
