I'd say most likely not, unless they are VERY far apart on their asks/offers.
They will usually work through it via a temporary contact extension while the talks are happening.

If after a few weeks or more, talks have broken down, they may halt work through a strike or lock out.

Double digit pay hike, plus other demands. Either way the cost of building it is going to jump.

I read they’re asking 40% pay hike and only a 32 hr work week. I’m sure that’s a 100% no, so we will see where the agreement ends up at.

That may be correct, I may have missed it.

The 40% figure I read was stating what increases executives at the Big Three had over the last three years.

The article also stated it would take one of GM's line workers 16 years to earn what Mary Barra makes in a week.
She made $29 Million last year.

So yeah, I'm OK with the big ask. If I'm gonna pay $40k for a Base Bronco or Jeep, I'd rather the profits set up the line workers than continue to fund the lottery sized annual salaries of the Executives.

Others tend to really hate it when the working folk win one once in a while.

I agree, specially seeing how many people working the line were considered “essential” during the pandemic and worked crazy hours in order to maintain production. Time to pay them accordingly

That is for sure part of what the UAW is asking for from GM. With the "messy" ownership levels there who knows how much they will get.
