Different strokes for different folks. I've always liked the FJ and wish Toyota would bring them back.

I like the FJ but not as a retro Bronco. That being said, I think a half door for the rear seats access instead of full doors makes sense in a Bronco for wheelbase reasons.

What do I think of the renderings... hmmmm, hard to say, neither have a big ass tire hanging on the back.
To me those rear ends have more in common with the Sport. The taillights are shaped more like the production Sport.

As long as it doesn't get bigger... then it'll probably be OK no matter what they do.

Remember when the original Bronco turned into the OJ Bronco? Bad news.
(Everyone wants the original small version and their used-value reflects it)

Remember when the original 4Runners got bigger? Bad news.
(Everyone wants the original small version and their used-value reflects it)

Remember when the (very nice) FJ40 & FJ45s got bigger? Bad News.
(Everyone wants the original small version and their used-value reflects it)

The problem with most designs... is that they get bigger. The Bronco is big enough!

My 2 cents.

The sad fact is that car manufacturers don't care about the used value of their products.

According to the sales numbers, people liked the Bronco more when it became a full-size SUV. Even though, the original Bronco looks the best, it wasn't very popular back in the day.

The current generation turned out great and is going to be the most successful due to the global presence of the model. And I agree with you, I definitely wouldn't want the next gen to get any bigger.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who finds the left half attractive :)

Wish we could see more photos of that concept. There's a chance that some elements of this design might get carried over to the next generation.

The first gen had a pretty targeted market namely Jeep people. The 2nd through 5th gens were f150 based so they had a broader market appeal. By the way we didn't use the term suv back in 78.

What did people call those vehicles back then? I’d assume “truck” or “wagon”?

Actually primo examples of full size Bronco's particulary 2nd gen's are bringing serious money. And truthfully 1st gen's have only been high the last 10 or 12 years after some yahoo paid an inflated price for one at a major vehicle aucton.

Truck was fairly common for Bronco's Blazer's and Ramchargers Scout's. Jeep's were called Jeep's. In some parts of the midwest and plains "rig" was common.

Yesterday I came across an old web article about the design ideation process for the 6th gen Bronco. Frankly, I didn't find it very interesting or informative, but it contained an image of the Bronco prototype that I hadn't seen before. The picture shows a 2 in 1 clay model from the early design stages.

I will say that I really like the design of the left half. I think I like it even more than rear end of the production model. IMO it has a nice visual balance of squared and rounded shapes. The right half also looks great.

What are your thoughts?

Kind of a mute point after 3 years of the 6g. It is what is. What will the 7g be like?
