What is the turret hole in the MOD top for?

Obviously it isn't for someone to mount a SAW to... Why would one mount an unreliable 5.56 when you can have a 240 or Mark 19?

You can see it right above the front passenger. Maybe it is a Euro army thing. Some hard cab Unimogs had them as well.

Not sure the point you're trying to make. Am I some history expert, no, but was Army for 8 years and worked hand in hand with tankers for most of that time.

I guess you can say it's more of a question I'm asking.

I asked about this in the "bumper standing" thread yesterday, but it looks like that thread was deleted before I received the answer: all jokes aside, what is the actual, real purpose of the turret hole in the MOD top? I cannot even imagine what Ford's intended use might be. I'm sure it's not for a passenger to use a mounted SAW.

I only qualified on them. I left the humping to the grunts, as an 88M.

It is. Pinzgauer 710K...used as a radio truck. Mine was super low miles / hours of operation. Sold it before I did too much damage to it off road. The truck was just too nice.
