So, from everything I've read the 2-door got the 16.9 gallon tank, and the 4-door got the 20.8 gallon. However, every time I've filled up from almost empty, my 2.3/7MT always clicks off at 15.x gallons. I've tried to fill it more, but nope, its done and the gauge shows full

So, is it based on body style and if it has a 6-cylinder? Do only the 4dr 2.7 and Braptor get the big tank?

Sorry if this has been covered, everything I could find were 2-3 year old posts.

2 door is 17 gallon
4 door is 21 gallon
It’s the same for every engine configuration. When you’re filling up from empty, it’s probably not actually empty.

I wonder if the smaller tank would even bolt up. We've seen stranger mismatched parts.

In for updates.

Nope. Totally different mounting locations. The front strap would probably work, but the rear strap would have no where to mount.
That would be extremely funny though 😂

It says I have 50 miles left, so is it really leaving 5 gallons on the table with a computed average of 18mpg? Here is the only good pic I could find of a 4dr tank, does anyone have a good underside shot of a 2dr?

It's leaving an unspecified amount in the tanks when the estimated miles is 0. There is one way to find out how much and I recommend carrying a full can in the back. :p

Well, I have the bigger tank, so I think it's time to do some pencil-and-paper MPG math. On the upside I don't have the wrong tank, I definitely want a bigger one but who doesn't?

All my other late model Ford's have approx 3 gallons remaining in fuel tank when 'zero miles to empty" shows. One of these days I'll take extra fuel w/me and see how far we travel to get accurate reserve capacity.

It is probably not good to run the system dry - I think it will affect the cat, if I recall correctly.

Does more damage to the fuel pump which relies on the fuel to stay cool. I don't think the cat will be affected.

Did you run her dry to find out or just look under the rig?
