I’d buy a Badlands, put $2500 into the audio system. $150 for some 3W liners. $12 into some paracord grab handles like everyone else and save the rest.

I had this idea the other night and thought it might be a fun and thought provoking topic, so here goes!

Say you just purchased a stock Bronco, let’s go with something middle of the road to make things more interesting - a non-Sasquatch Black Diamond

Given this starting point, how would YOU spend $15,000 modifying it?

What activities do you plan on doing with it? Would it be a daily driver for you? What levels of trails would you be willing to tackle with it?

The upgrades can be anything from wheels and tires to suspension to interior accessories - whatever your heart desires

My thought for this thread is that it could give some ideas as to what is most important to spend money on for X activity, or just spur conversation as to why one should consider doing X instead of Y

I would build it to be a mid duty off-road/forest road truck.

Functional Additions:
Toyo OC 285/75r17
Bilstein 6100s at lowest clip position for a ~1-1.5 inch lift
Severe duty steering for peace of mind
Asfir skids for tank, tcase, transmission, and engine
Metal oil and trans pans, as well as Ford Perf diff cover
Some sort of fog and ditch light setup
A front receiver hitch for the Mod front bumper to run a universal winch front or rear
A dual battery setup with a cutoff switch
Mountains2Metal attic shelf
If we're going really crazy, delete the 60 half of the rear seats and replace it with a load floor. Keep the 40 side around as a jump seat.

Fun stuff:
KBD flares
Special Decor/hockey stick stripes along the sides
Archetype retro badges
Painted surround on grill for retro look

My goal would be to keep it relatively lightweight (as broncos go lol) while still protecting all of the vital organs.

I plan on doing the majority of these on my Big Bend, minus the rack most likely. Since I don't have lockers or aux switches I have a few limitations, but I want to add the OEM switches for a clean look.

So...I'm one of the believers that Ford engineers are smarter than me and have more technology at their disposal to design components for the Bronco than me...it's why I bought a loaded 2 door Badlands and it's Awesome and performs unbelievably on and off road. I had a Rubicon that I tried to do all the aftermarket equipment possible for about 25k and it didn't perform ANYTHING like my new Bronco...sorry, I'm a buzz kill on fixing something that was designed nicely from the factory!!!

I'd trade it in on a HE, add factory skid plates ($700?), Armorlite flooring ($650?), get take-off rockrails off FB/Craigslist for $50. Then customize from there.

I would add the $15K to the price of a Black Diamond and buy a Bad Lands. Oh wait, that’s what I did.

Trade it in on a 2021 non-sasquatch OBX Lux adv 4x4 with the 2.7.

Take the extra cash and buy portals, rims, and tires.

Done.

I might be $15k into my Outerbanks, check my build thread for what I actually did.

First decide what tire size you want. That then helps decide the lift, gearing, and supporting mods.

First up is always suspension, Bilstein 6112s.

Then let's get some better articulation RockJock front sway bar.

Next armor. Rock sliders and skid plates of your choice.

Let's get ready for big tires, upgrade the front diff to the M210.

Severe duty steering rack.

JKS? max clearance kit for the 37s.

Now we can focus on wheels and tires.

I like my RTRs, but if I went more for a rock crawler build I'd go with Method bead grip wheels.

For two door I'd go 17" with 35s, 4.27s can handle 35s. But if you do think you might go with bigger tires in the future, or just want to increase 4WD performance, go ahead and re-gear the rear and go with the appropriate FDU.

For four door I'd go 17" with 37s.

If you go 37s I'd want to regear to 5.13, which means buy the FDU with 5.13s already and only re-gear the rear.

Ditch lights for a pillar

All of that is probably around $10-15k.

Focus on the fundamentals first. Don't waste time or money on the BS.

Love all the information!
Still planning for me, and I’ve never done these sorts of heavy mods before (would like to learn some of this myself)
I have a 4dr, and was thinking 35x11.5/17s, to keep the BD steelies.
Now, though, I’m wondering about 37s. Would you use the max clip setting on the Bilstein 6112s, or use like 3rd (2.5” lift) to keep the stock UCAs?

Also regearing the rear axle sounds hard in the 37 case.

And I really need a bigger garage…

Why do you want 37s?

Point taken, maybe I don't, if it's not a full rock crawler. 35s might be enough for the trails I've rode with friends on (and had to skip doing myself). But that's my inexperience with it; you just mentioned you'd want 37s on a 4dr. So why would you?
I assume to get the better breakover angle.

For a true off-road build the 116? Inch wheelbase is better suited for 37s, and mechanically the Bronco with the severe duty rack can handle them.
