So I thought I had shared this to gen. pop., but I only shared it in a private conversation. What everyone will need to do is adjust their Actual Fuel Economy (AFE) bias that is accessed in engineering test mode.

First you will need to hand calculate your fuel economy over several fill-ups. You need an accurate odometer reading along with how many gallons you fill up with to calculate your fuel economy.

Once you have your set of data, average them. Take that Actual Fuel Economy average and divide by the Display Fuel Economy.* Move the decimal point 3 places and that will be your new AFE bias. The factory default is 1000.

*Note: For those who don't calculate their fuel economy in Freedom Units, then reverse the calculation (Display Fuel Economy divided by Actual Fuel Economy).

To enter engineering test mode, sit in the driver's seat and wait for all the displays to go blank/off.

Press and hold 'OK' on the steering wheel for 5 seconds. While still holding the 'OK' button, step on the brake and start the engine.

Continue to hold the 'OK' button until the center display (speedometer informational panel) displays Engineering Test Mode. Release the 'OK' button.

Scroll through the menu via the up/down arrows until you find the AFE Bias screen. Make the adjustment and save.

Turn off the engine and wait a few seconds and then restart. The new AFE bias will be used to display the actual fuel economy along with your miles to empty.
I'm trying to do this but not working. I have a manual, is it a different procedure for it? How long after both displays go blank do you have to wait? How long do you have to hold OK after startup before engineering mode shows up?

TIA

Not that I'm aware of

How long after both displays go blank do you have to wait?
No set time. Just make sure the displays have gone blank before commencing the 5 second countdown while holding OK.

How long do you have to hold OK after startup before engineering mode shows up?
After screens go blank, press and hold OK for 5 seconds. (if your count is too fast, it won't enter engineering test mode). While holding OK, press brake and start the engine. Continue to hold OK until the IP panel displays Engineering Test Mode.

TIA

I just tried on mine and couldn’t get it to work either. I have a bunch of warnings popping up that may be interfering though so will try again when I get those cleared

I have a manual. It took me a couple of tries. I can't remember what I was doing wrong. Not holding the OK key long enough was one mistake.

But the process Beach_Bum gave is correct and works.

I'm not sure why Ford has to be so strict with key/timing sequences. I had an issue with putting the Bronco in Tire Learning mode ( a whole separate sequence of steps). It is like cracking a safe. One wrong move and you have to start over.

I still think the AFE Bias should be moved to the Settings screen in SYNC. All Ford trucks come with the same 1.00 AFE Bias. After compiling the data of actual fuel economy, it is an easy correction.

I think Ford does it to keep customers who don't know what they're doing from causing service problems.

So before you do this AFE ,should you be checking/changing the tire revolutions ?

No. Do this after you change your tire revolutions if that's something you want to do. You're just changing a multiplier the computer uses to convert injector pulses to mpg.

You will be compiling by hand a series of datasets of your actual fuel economy. If your speedometer is off resulting in more/less miles on the clock than what is actually driven, then your datasets will be compromised. Now, this premise is only going to have a measurable difference if the speedometer is egregiously off.

So if you are still rolling on stock wheels/tires, you may notice the speedometer off slightly but not enough to make that big of a difference. If you have changed your wheels/tires from stock, then you should have updated the wheel/tire revolutions.

Was there any special steps for a manual? Or was it just the sequence/timing of steps that didn't coincide with Ford's internal safe-cracking algorithm that was preventing access?

I have a manual and I followed your steps exactly. Worked fine once I learned not to release the OK button until I saw it enter Engineering Test Mode.

FYI, for a Bronco Sport you also need to fasten the seat belt.

I don't know, the only thing I did this morning differently was keep my right hand on the steering wheel holding OK, reached under steering wheel with left hand, counted a slow 7 seconds, pushed in clutch, hit start button, and pretty quickly the engineering mode showed up, 😃. My left index finger is useless in holding the OK button I guess...😆
