Why does the rear middle seat have that large bump out?

The real problem here is that most of you have decided to have kids.
Not true, my 2 door doesn't have this bump in the middle since only 2 seats back there.... And fits 2 car seats in the back contrary to popular belief lol

Don’t sell yourself short in life. My wife and I joke around about a conversation we had before we decide to have children. The conversation went something like: do you want to be rich and not have any concerns, or do you want children. We went for the children, and it’s the best thing I have ever done!
Something that you will never hear me say! lol

Nice, how's your Grand Caravan treating you? Do any mods yet?

Are you referring to my full size crew cab truck, or the AMG sedan? Both are great, and I keep the mods pretty minimal. Still waiting for a Bronco build. 👌🏻

I have wondered the same thing, I cannot find any one purpose it’s there. The one time I had 5 people in the Bronco they were fighting over who had to sit in the middle and took turns. Glad I’ll never sit there lol.

It's probably to help the center armrest (for ones that have it) not sag too much or get pushed down too far with weight put on it.
This^^^^^^^^

Due to the lack of cup holders, this support allows your rear armrest to hold Super Big Gulps instead of just Big Gulps. Ford giving you Cup Holder capacity over Cup Holder quantity. Ford Quality is Job #1

HA when Ford first did the Bronco tour in 2021 Spring my wife and I sat in the back and agreed that bump was stupid and uncomfortable. Sucks for my kids that gotta sit in the middle.

"We need common-sense, high-capacity cupholder reform, and we need it now.
If we could save just one seat from unimaginable hump, wouldn't it be worth it?"

I think that's how internet progress gets made, right?

Is the bump there for all seat types….cloth, MGV and leather? I’ve only sat in leather so trying to figure out if one is better than the other for sitting 3 in back.

Yes its a very narrow seat. I believe the bump is their to keep your arse pushed forward a bit so its not resting on the seat belt buckle attach points.

I believe that bump is there to support some models of car seats, for support and proper installation. The center seat has advantages because children cannot reach for the window or door controls, they are further removed from harsh sun coming into a side window, and best of all they can see better out the front windshield instead of looking directly at the back of a seat. This is exactly why we used to strap my son's car seat in the middle (LONG ago, he is 26 now). :)

I think the hump is Ford's way of telling you that you should have bought an explorer.
