Does anyone out there know of some sort of windshield protection to protect against stone chips? If there is a product I’m sure it’s not very lasting due to the wipers.
Hi! 👋 Yes there is! We are ExoShield and we are the only PET windshield film that is 8mil thick with a 3 year warranty. Wipers won’t scratch the film themselves but if dirt, sand, or debris gets trapped in your wiper blades, it can scratch any surface, including ExoShield. But with proper care you can maximize the life of your film and keep it looking crystal clear. Happy to share more about windshield protection film if you’d like!

That’s not my cup of tea. I stay away from “all” dump trucks and despise tail gaters when they run up on me. FYI my OBX Sasquatch is being delivered this week and read these horror stories in the forum of cracked and chipped windshields. I’m being “preemptive” to assure it doesn’t happen to mine, although it will mostly be a “hanger queen” due to the fact my other ride is a 2022 Maverick XLT.
The best of luck to you!
I too give room (3 seconds) ahead, back off from gravel trucks, and abhor tailgaters (what the heck is with that type of driving aggression?)

My first chip came when no car/truck/bicycle/grasshopper was within 1/2 mile ahead of me.
I think I fell prey to the Bronco self-inflicted wound: a rock thrown ahead from a front tire (new Goodyear OEMs).
It happened just as I hit some gravely stuff along the side of an interstate.

It hit low, and am wondering if a hood deflector would've helped.

hood deflector on the front edge of the hood has done an amazing job over the last three years making sure the rocks/etc don't even impact my windshield

What make and style of hood protector did you purchase. I watched a YouTube where it sort of caused a mild vibration on the hood.
I just picked up my OBX Sasquatch yesterday and will try to protect it as much as possible without it looking “wonky”.

I’m using the ford factory one cited above. It was installed by my dealer at pickup

I have been using Windshield protection for many years on my fun cars, last couple has been ExoShield which I have found the best. But I was told best not to put on something I'm going to drive all winter. Said if sand/salt get on there wipers could then scratch. Not really as worried on my Bronco as I am on my cars with it being higher and wont be driving with groups of cars that have fat sticky tires that like to throw rocks. When I do have protection on my cars they apply ceramic over it and that does help when using wipers.

I considered windshield protection but if it costs $300 and my insurance deductible is $100, it does not seem cost effective.

Did you consider the increase in your premiums over the next five years in your cost benefit analysis?

I got the one with the bump that alters airflow and debris trajectory guys at the rural Ford dealer say itmcuts down glass damage by 90%+

Likewise. No problem with rocks, debris, or bugs. I'd love to see an airflow diagram of how this thing actually works. It's kept everything off, except for bugs on I-35 in Kansas on a hot summer night.

I installed it myself, and followed the instructions very carefully, including a final cleaning of the paint surface with isopropyl alcohol. It's on good and tight, except....the edge facing the windshield (the edge I see through my windshield) has lifted up about 1/4 inch. Water gets down there, under the aeroskin, dirt and debris I have no doubt, and now maple spinners.

Has anybody else had this problem?
If so, do you have a remedy to share?

I was thinking of just getting some Gorilla glue, inject it down under the aeroskin, and then clamping it down very carefully with furniture clamps.

You need to remove it with heat gun assistance, finesse it, clean both surfaces and use new 3M 2 way tape from body shop supply store. It's a pita but with degreased (acetone) surfaces and fresh 3M body moulding tape it will never separate again.

I've had the windshield replaced in my Ranger 4 times over 23 years without any increase in premium due to windshield replacement. However, insurance rates go up even if you don't file claims.

Well, that may begin to change. Historically, comprehensive claims, which glass falls under, were not considered at-fault and as a result didn't usually count as a claim that would result in surcharges.

However, that is beginning to change. Insurers are not beginning to count glass claims as an "incident" and depending on the company, will begin counting them as a potential chargeable claim, regardless of fault.

The rationale in this example is if the roads you drive put you at increased risk of vehicle damage, then you are a higher risk and your premiums should reflect that.

I'm not speaking from my butt on this. For the last 32 years of my career I worked for two major insurance companies, the last 14 years of those I lead the IT department and was the CIO before I retired 4 years ago.

My department was responsible for coding and implementing the rules that affected premiums.
