I always thought broncos don’t have any axle/hub lock/unlock system…only transfer case front output disconnect…pretty sure driveline turns all the time??…another reason for low mpg, but I’ll take the reliability…I may be old but nothing wrong with old time locking hubs…Central axle disconnect. Basically "breaks" one axleshaft so the entire front driveline doesn't turn with the wheels in 2wd. Historically a weak point in every 4wd system it graces.
