What I hate about my Bronco, you? (edit) Or maybe I should have called it "What would you want if you were designing it"

Overall, I love this thing. I was a Gen 1 fan as a teen, and throughout my adulthood. Should have kept every one! The one "issue" is as a passenger, there is not a natural grab handle placement to grab as you get in, especially when I went to 35's. My wife reminds me on the regular.

Things I hate (which is a strong word, I dislike)...

Sync/Carplay. Not sure which it is, but it's so buggy that it drives me nuts. Sync seems to work ok if you don't use Carplay at all, but in the stripped down model, Sync is pretty much just a Bluetooth adapter at that point and you need Carplay to use the screen for anything other than a glorified radio dial.

Window flop. Yeah, it's been "fixed", but Ford wants you to pay for it if you aren't in warranty, and I'm a bit sour on that.

Creaks/squeaks. Kinda comes with the territory, I know, but I track these things down pretty relentlessly. And every time I get one fixed, two more pop up to take it's place. Most of them seem to come from the ...

Cheap plastic interior, and the playskool instrument cluster. I hate that the plastic scratches if you look at it funny, and is put together in a manner that almost makes it self-destruct when you need to pop a panel off for something. The new IC is maybe better? But the old IC is horrible, lots of wasted space, two speedometers for some reason, just lots of potential wasted there.

And that's my list. Most everything else that bugs me I've figured a way around or upgraded out of it.
My Sync/Carplay interface was driving me nuts until I did the reboot. Hold the power button in while pressing the right seek arrows. 10 seconds later the system rebooted and all was working fine. Try it.

I do that about 5 times a week - but thanks for posting this!

So for one, the automatic start stop. I know there is a button to shut it off. But the button should be to turn it on.

The other thing I hate is "this is disabled while driving". There should be a feature to disable that feature. I would like to switch albums in my USB while on the highway for example. There is not really any more functions to do that is any more distracting than switching through some of the phone functions screens while driving.

(Other than that this is my most favorite vehicle I've owned)

(If the H word makes you sad imagine I used downcast instead)

Hi there! How do you turn off the "automatic start stop"? This is annoying.

2 things I HATE:

Rain sensing wipers. They're always either too fast or too slow. They'll start out at the correct speed and then slow down causing me to adjust the switch again. Just give me the normal speed selector.

No physical "home" button for the radio interface. If I want to listen to the radio I get in my car and Android Auto immediately pops up and I have to hit the apps button, hit the Ford Sync button, hit the audio button, then hit the FM button. Not to mention the lag in between all those button presses. In my Malibu it's two button presses: The physical "home" button then the "radio" button. (If there's a quicker secret button please let me know)

I'm just getting used to my 7sp. I've been driving manuals for most of my life and I'm used to going from 1st to 2nd with a downward and leftward motion and some light pressure. I have plenty of miles on my clutches and trannies with no issues - I know how to drive a stick! But this one gets hung up on the way down to 2nd with the slightest leftward pressure, likely due to the gate to get to Reverse/Crawler. I also have a bit of trouble going from 3rd to 2nd. Ugh! I thought there was something wrong at first, but now getting used to it by just going down, or even having a tiny pressure to the right on the way down. I kind of hate it - not sure if that's too strong of a word, but it's the thing I dislike the most at this point.
Next on the list would be the lack of memory seats. I'll mostly be the only driver so not a huge deal, but it will be a bit annoying when my wife sets it her way and I'm not able to 'fix it' with the touch of a button! :)
I tried to recreate your problem in my 7MT after I read this yesterday. I can't detect even the slightest hitch on the R/C lockout if I'm pushing to left from 1st to 2nd. Your lockout may be misaligned. If it's anything like the last Ford I owned with a reverse lockout, the height of the shift knob sets where the lock out rides. Too low and you can't disengage the lockout, too high and it won't ever fully engage. The latter might be your problem.

Cheap plastic panels

Sometimes when I exit the vehicle my knee hits the headlights switch and turns it on. I wish it was in a slightly different location.

No CD player....

I do Love it still though.....
I thought I'd hate no CD player, but it made me move into the '90s and set up a MP3 player, which I now use in all my vehicles.

Thank you for this, I fully agree with EVERYTHING you say...I'm under warranty (paid for 7 y B2B) but never have they offered to fix the window flop or creaks/squeaks. Any recommendations on how to approach my dealer to address these issues?

I should also add that I paid $2K extra for paint dings/chips, dents and interior stains and now my dealer is saying I need to get approved first with photos/footage...WTAF

Firs, I didn't even know Bronco's were available with rain sensing wipers, mine doesn't have them.

As to problem #2: I had also found this annoying, it always defaulted to Android Auto and was tedious to get back to FM. A year or so ago the Bluetooth quit working so now it defaults to FM or whatever I set input to. If I want AA I just plug it in to the USB. I'm in no hurry to get it 'fixed'.

Tell them you want them to address SSM 53981.
My dealer said they needed to test it and replaced if it was deemed appropriate.
Got a call to pick it up 3 days later with the fix done. Mush more solid windows going over bumps.

OK. Minor nuisance here that I don’t believe anyone else has mentioned, but I am used to having the automatic transmission selector illuminated. Having to look at the dash is admittedly easy, but it’s not my normal inclination, and if I rely on feel alone, then I’m always finding myself unexpectedly in neutral when I’m ready to roll one way or another.

My expectations for the Bronco were not high, I did not expect to be buying a refined luxury ride, but a nice one. I'm happy with it. I did spend a couple grand on the aftermarket tweaks to make the "house" a "home", and that makes all the difference to me.
Yeah, here’s my longer take:

I’ve owned luxury cars, I’ve owned work pickups. Ford had a pretty tough job getting the balance right on the Bronco. A lot of the cost has gone into pretty burly components—at least on my BL/SAS/Hoss 3.0. The interior and the tech is still (to me) surprisingly good. It’s comfortable, esp compared to a comparable Jeep. It’s capable. Reliability issues require getting a bit lucky but these odds vary with all automakers (I’ve had a MBZ blow a cylinder at 100K miles—go figure). If there’s something you seriously hate about the Bronco then you might have bought the wrong vehicle. It does what it does, pretty damn well.
I'm with both of you on this. The Bronco replaced a BMW X5 and as such I was expecting compromises, but I have found that the Bronco has pleasantly surprised me at this point.

No, rain sensing wipers are not offered on the Broncos.
