What are the mounting options for a two door? Will it fit over the cargo area or does it need to be above the seats?
The
I recently got a starlink mini and after considering using a magnet mount on my roof rack, I found out it perfectly fits on my overhead Molly panel. I used to included pole mount an option to tighten it to the Molly panel. The starlink barely touches the padding on the bottom of the roof panels.

Mounted mine today.
Magnet mount to the Turn Off-Road overhead molle panel. Run thru a Jackery Explorer 100 Plus, which is plugged into the rear 12V port.

Do you use the overhead molle panel for anything besides starlink?
Is this the same molle panel they sell for the 4 door? I don't see one that says for the two door.

Not yet, but I have the option to.
Did you get a 2 door molle kit or does the 4 door one work on the 2 door? Looks like the price of the 4 door kit is not bad only about $200.
The Turn Off-Road website only has photos of a 4 door, it does say it fits the 2 door but that is left up to the imagination.

Hey @JvKintheUSA, how snug or solid is the fit? Does it slide around at all or is it pretty solid on road/off road? Thanks.

How many on here would trust Starlink for emergencies? Much of the Western US is out of cell phone contact. At least the areas that interest me.

I have Starlink as my home Internet, I would trust it as much as anything else.

It has similar coverage and similar reliability to cellular. Similar but different

If you needed 99.9% reliability you’d get a dedicated SAT phone or installed radio setup. Starlink I wouldn’t put in that class - it’s cell phone grade. It will have gaps in coverage (trees and overpasses), but those gaps are different than cellular, which needs to be physically close to a tower. It periodically has internal issues or global outages, and is prone to damage from solar flares and space-emissions and such, but those aren’t frequent outages. It does require a monthly fee, but does not require a license or extraordinarily expensive or exotic equipment.

Bonus: it lets you watch pornhub while camping… try doing that over ham radio

I bought my Starlink for the reason that in the southwest there are hundreds of mile without cell service and it works great!

Once you buy a mini without buying a service plan?

I know new iPhones have satellite texting, but only with the right service plan. Consumer Cellular doesn't support it.

If you're looking strictly for emergency use, or sending a periodic, "Hey, I'm ok text", and not the aspect of having good internet, I'd go with a dedicated satellite device such as a Garmin InReach.

It will allow you to text via your phone (it connects to your phone via BT or can also be used as a standalone unit) anywhere you have a clear view of the sky and has the advantage of a dedicated SOS button should you get in really deep trouble.

I have a newer iPhone and find the satellite connectivity of it to be very good as well and have been using it more than my Garmin lately. But the Garmin is a good backup. My basic Garmin plan is $13/month and allows unlimited pre-set texts and a certain number of "custom" texts, and if you go over there is a small per text fee.

I ride a motorcycle in remote areas by myself and like the fact the InReach connects to my Garmin GPS and I can use it as an interface as well.

I use a Garmin InReach Mini, but there are several competitors out there as well. I chose Garmin as I have been in their universe for nearly 20 years.
