I usually end up around $150, including oil change, tire air, cabin filter, new wipers, topping off bug wash, and the friendly advice that it's time to change all my other fluids prematurely.

April Wine?! Tell me your Canadian, without telling me your Canadian, lol. From the same era but opposite ends of the country, throw on some Prism, specifically Armageddon and see if you can get the oil change done between the opening sounds of the jets scrambling and the closing notes. If you need more time, throw on Rush's 2112. It doesn't get much longer than that.

On the USA side, Paradise by the Dashboard Light and Don Mclean's American Pie come to mind as lengthy tunes.

128 bucks at my local independent with semi synth.. Also includes a tire rotation, a top off of the washer juice, quick inspection of some safety items, and checking/setting tire pressure.

Last time I paid an independent full service mechanic shop to do a full synth oil change they charged $80 for the synthetic oil I asked for, and then put a POS chinesium filter that retails for $1.50 in it. Overall cost something like $130. That was for my F-150, but same quantity of oil and same filter spec. Only did it due to health issues preventing me front crawling under the truck.

The last time, many many years ago, that I used a quick lube place, they failed to put my air filter back in after trying to get me to pay for a new one despite me having replaced the filter the last change, hah.

I will never take any car to a shop for any service I can perform ever again as long as I am physically capable of doing it.

I had the same thing happen with the air filter once. When the wifes car was getting it's free oil change they called me and said it need both air filters for $60. or so, I told them to go ahead but to save the old filters for me to look at, of course all I got was "oh sorry dude, we forgot to save them". Now any time i take any vehicle into any shop I make the service writer write in ALL CAPS "DO NOT CHECK AIR FILTER" on the order.

With new Bronco, I figured I might want to have oil changes and all the maintenance records 'on the record', so called the dealership almost a year ago to schedule a trip down to Auburn, CA. They quoted me ~$90, and asked me when, and then... would I like them to come to me.

Wait... whut? How much would *that* cost??? The same. $90. Sure, why not?

How on earth can they make anything by sending a guy out to my place to do all that? Guy came out, did a 32 point (or whatever) inspection - checked brake pad thickness, tire tread life left, battery health, air filter, on board diagnostic, oil filter, motorcraft full synthetic... all in for $90.

This winter, I called them back - asked for the same. This time, two guys did the works - full synthetic oil and oil filter change again, check tread life and air pressure, rotated tires - asking me which tire I wanted moved to which corner(!), checked battery health, brake pad life, replaced air filter... hauled off the old oil... EVERYTHING. Just $90. How they can stay in business for that, who knows?

Oil and filter and a new oil plug was going to cost me close to $50-$60. For the hour or so to do the work, and have them haul off the old oil versus me having to go down to the recycler (add another half hour of my time), I'll gladly pay someone else $40 and not have to rotate my own tires.

Based on what I know about cheaper oils they meet the basic requirements but it is clear they do not meet Ford's WSS-M2C961-A1 spec--because if they did it would state so. Now is that a problem --probably not but if I had a warranty claim I would not want to be in a fight with ford on whether or not it is caused due to using oil not meeting specification. I would also take note of the word "Backward Compatibility" which I high lighted in red-- makes you wonder. Not saying it's an issue but for me I would prefer to not be in that position should I have an issue.

I did do the research, Costco's buying power allows them them to sell premium motor oil at a reasonable cost. It's on par with the other top brands, no need to pay extra for advertising and sponsorships.

No. It's on par with the low-end bulk oil dealers have switched to.
You get what you pay for.
