The manual is nice, but there have been reports of transmission housings cracking. I drive a Badlands SAS w/2.7l. I Offroad it.

The SAS is "only a wheel and tire package" if you're looking at a Badlands since that trim already has 4A capability, SAS or not.

In every other trim, the SAS gets you 4A and the better gearing, along with the wheels and tires, and it seems like I see a lot of non-SAS owners eventually want to get wheels, tires and lift, and when you go down that route you then have to consider other things like CV joints.

I may be in the minority, but I'd rather get the vehicle that was as it came from the factory as it was designed. I don't want to be arguing with a dealership on warranty coverage for a drivetrain issue because of modifications I have done. Others will disagree, but since you asked for opinions, that's mine.

Now I have a 2024 Wildtrak so I can't give you an opinion between the two models you are shopping, however I will say that my WildTrak pleasantly surprised me with it's ride. It replaced a 2012 BMW X5, so I prepared myself to know that I was (willingly) getting a different type of vehicle. I expected a big compromise in ride quality.

I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the 35s are a bit noisier and it will never corner like the X5 did, but it is much more comfortable than what I prepared myself for. I also have the hard top with the sound deadening material, and my WildTrak has the HOSS 3.0 suspension.

Also, when I was shopping (Badlands vs. WildTrak), the engine was going to be the 2.7L if I went the Badlands route, the 2.7L was the only engine on the WildTrak.

I used to say this too, but it's not technically correct. The major difference is with the automatics. Auto non-sas comes with 4.46 gears, you have to get SAS to get the 4.7 gears with the auto. Manuals...yeah, wheel and tire package, but for the auto crowd, the gears is an important to note upgrade that requires sasquatch.

That said, I kind of feel like putting sasquatch on an outerbanks is a trap option. It brings the price up to the same place as a Badlands would be. I feel like if you're spending that kind of coin, you should just buy the Badlands.

Unless you are rock crawing an OB will do anything you want. Most you would need is order a rear locker (like I did) and swap to bigger tires (which I haven't yet).
I took my stock OB on the motorcycle Continental Divide trail from New Mexico to Canada and only needed 4X4 a couple of times. I engaged the locker once, but really didn't need it.
I also ferried a bunch of photographers around an off road race in Sonora Mexico on 2-tracks that hadn't been driven on in 20 years. No problems.
The OB is a very good daily driver, too.

A big thank you to everyone for the feedback and insight. I think I’m leaning towards ordering an Outer Banks w/ the lux package, Sasquatch, painted hardtop roof and *probably* the 2.7 (still debating which engine to go with). I should clarify that I never expected a quiet and smooth ride. I knew what I was getting with a Bronco, but the difference between the stock badlands and the OB w/ the Sasquatch really surprised me. I’m not a fan of the stock wheels on the OB at all, I would have done the black appearance package but the black steelies are a hard no for my wife. And ultimately I think the Sasquatch package is the best looking option. I like having the off road capabilities that come with it but I just don’t see it happening. I would contemplate the aftermarket route for wheel/suspension upgrades, but this will likely go back at the end of the lease (roads are trash around me and I have young kids that’ll inevitably destroy the interior).

I also agree with you with respect to optioning up an OBX. My son is considering getting a Bronco. He originally wanted a WildTrak like mine, but since that trim is no longer offered, he was going to get a Bad/SAS w/HOSS 3.0.

He then started looking at optioning up an OBX/SAS and when all was said and done, he is closing in on the Badlands from a price perspective.

There is no debate, get the 2.7. More power and it’s not working as hard as the 2.3 will, especially with the SAS package.

2.7 Auto OBX Sas is a win win; that is my 2 cents.

I went all out and got the BL Sas and its amazing. Even if it isn't leather, the vinyl and washable floorboards, with all the other lux items, makes it perfect for me and my DD and family adventures. We take it on the highway for long trips, on rocks and through mud holes.

If I wasn't going to wheel much, but wanted the luxury with look and capability, the OBX Sas is the answer. Badlands is made for wheeling and has the extras for the trail. All comes down to the right tool for the job.
