Anybody buying motor oil in bulk?

Hey all, curious if anyone buys their motor oil in bulk. I just bought a pack of 12 FoMoCo FL2062A filters for about $90 on eBay, as I do all of my own oil changes (huge shoutout to UPR drain plugs lol). Much cheaper than $15-ish per filter if you can find it at Walmart or AutoZone. Now I'm looking to buy the oil in bulk to save in the long run too. I'm doing 3-4 oil changes per year (every 5k on the odometer I do an oil change; next up will be 85k mi) with Mobil 1 high mileage full synthetic 5w-30. I keep finding stuff in boxes online, but it's actually more expensive than just buying from Walmart off the shelf.
Any tips? Hoping to stick with Mobil 1 or Valvoline, always full synthetic and not synthetic blend.

As much as I do not like Amsoil as a company, the product is proven. Find your local Amsoil dealer and ask about their 55 gallon drum price.

55 gallons would be 9-12 years worth of oil... That's a bit much haha, probably looking at a couple thousand dollars. I was hoping to get a box of oil or like 10 5-quart jugs or a 5 gallon bucket or something along those lines, rather than generational wealth of oil haha.

I haven't found anyone cheaper than Walmart for the 5qt jugs. I don't believe they sell cases for less than singles.

You can become a preferred customer for 25 bucks a year for Amsoil. You can order cases of oil from them. You can get 12 quarts to a case or 4, 1 gallon jugs to a case. If you spend 500 or more per year the membership is free.

Hard to beat Wal-Mart pricies on oil, 5 quarts of Mobil 1 Extended Life for aabout $25 bucks is best I've seen. An alternative is Costco Kirkland Full Synthetic, but it's only a couple bucks cheaper and somehow the Mobil 1 makes me feel better. That said I use the Costco Kirkland in my 25 year old V10 Super Duty and its never complained either. I buy the replacement yellow drain plugs and Motorcraft filters off Amazon, $10 bucks for a pack of 5 plugs and about $12/filter. An Oil change costs me about $40 bucks and less than an hour of my time DIY plus I get to eyeball the underneath of my Bronc to check for leaks or damage. 30k miles in, so far so good!

I buy it in 350gal totes for work and have it pumped off to thousand gallon site storage tanks. Still costs about $30/gal in bulk that way. Oil isn’t really worth stockpiling; it won’t go bad but if you have a leaker it’s a giant pain in the rear

we only keep enough on site for 1 oil change at a time plus some topoff

My membership is $17. Best oil out there, IMO.

You're paying for premium oil, then not taking advantage of it's quality. You're acting like you're still using dinosaur oil.

Nah, acting like I'm using dinosaur oil would mean an oil change every 3,000 miles like my grandpa does... But yes, indeed before my fourth oil change after owning the vehicle (which was at 75,000 miles; I bought it with 58k mi, changed it at 60k shortly after buying it (I always change fluids asap after buying a used vehicle), changed the oil at 65k, then 70k, and at 75k I took a sample of the oil) I did send an oil sample to Valvoline and they said that whatever I'm doing is working great for the wear of the engine. They didn't give a suggested oil change interval though. Plus I'm not using the "extended life" oil, I'm using the regular high mileage full synthetic, which makes a difference. I am more in favor of more frequent maintenance so that the vehicle lasts as long as possible. For example, I changed the transmission, transfer case, and differential fluids all at 75k as well instead of the factory recommended 150k. Haven't had any issues yet not coming up on 85k, it purrs like a kitten. I'm also only running 93 octane.

As of now I'm spending about $136 a year on oil excluding the filter (About $36 per oil change) so I don't think that would benefit me in the long run, but I'll look into it to see if the cost would still be less including the $25 membership fee. Thanks for the tip!!

Unforetunately the nearest costco to me is an hour and 45 minutes haha. But good info for anyone near a costco! Thanks!!
