I use sport every day. Love it turns off start stop and drives great.

So really, I only use the two Goat modes... or one depending how you look at it.
I prefer just pushing the 4x button because it stays in that mode after shutting the vehicle off.
@AZ_Liberty ... if anything, having the manual is a good reason to use Sport mode, makes that 2.3 pretty snappy .... that being said, I've only used it very few times.
The sharper throttle response is very handy in tight traffic patterns where if you open up a car length space, some asshole (or 2) will move into it.
The on/off throttle response is MUCH quicker.
But yeah, otherwise I never use the dial.

Cali trails, check out Indian Mountain in Idyllwild, love that trail both ways!
Also, while not as technical for the most part, I love the Anza Borrego area during desert season, much to explore, plenty off grid camping, mud caves, wind caves, highly recommended.
I’ve run Gold Mountain and John Bull. Was fun, got turtled on each one, one time, having a friend in a second vehicle to help was nice, poor line choice on my part in retrospect. I’d hit it again.
First rule of sport mode is don't talk about sport mode.
In 4 years 4 months I have turned that dial exactly zero times. I just push the buttons to my desired settings and hit the trails.

I use Normal the most, Sport when the sun is hot and its topless fun, and Rock crawl for the trails i do off roading, just because it turns on/off pretty much what I'd do, turns on my front camera all at once. I turn on and off locking diffs as needed.

8 GOAT Modes are necessary. 10 is a Better number in my opinion. I wish my Bronco had 10 GOAT Modes.

The modes do more than just turn on what wheel drive it is in. Change shift points i believe throttle response in slippery. Anti slip. Tn off roadieo went over it all. So more than just 4 wd options

I think it's cool you can use the GOAT modes or not use them...but still get to a similar (but different) configuration.
I also think it's cool that the modes can adjust the behavior of the transmission, steering, throttle, cameras, and traction control to better suit the conditions and do it all at your finger tips.
What I think is uncool is the Gabby Johnson's that have never used the GOAT modes, then proceed to hate on the GOAT modes for their mere existence. Just knowing these GOAT modes are lurking somewhere behind that console knob just irritates the daylights out of them. These dadgum whippersnappers and their blasted electro techno crap!

This thread and my Flashcal+ have made me want to give GOAT modes more of a try. But you bring up a good point: using 4wd buttons leave the Bronco in what ever drive you had it in, using GOAT modes you'd have to confirm each time and my reading-comprehension-action loop is usually 2 seconds slow.

I removed the buttons and replaced the transfer case in my zr2 with a manual transfer case that has a REAL lever attached directly.(236 to 231, essentially the same but no buttons on the dash).
Did I go too far?

Why not?
GOAT modes are not a detriment.
I'm not sure there's much else to consider.
Those of us who will use goat are not the lessers, no matter how others allude.

I use the Goat modes a lot....
BUT ---- I really wish we could use the forward view on the Camera without being in a Goat mode.
In the PNW, we have a ton of logging roads with potholes where 2WD is just fine.... the camera is nice to navigate around the giant potholes.....
Selecting Baja or Mud and going back to 2WD or turning off the locker allows camera use, but keeps the shift points annoyingly high when going 5-15 MPH.

I want to say I've seen a way to disable the speed limit (maybe with forskin?). If not, you might get an aftermarket camera. But be careful using it too much. I was with a Braptor that flipped and he was using the camera and didn't see he was driving onto a lip and had a dig out on the other side.
