If you haven't used Android Auto or Apple Car Play, you need to rent a car or borrow somebody's that has it. No need for built in navigation anymore. Google maps lets you download whole areas to your phone for offline navigation, so you don't need to have cell service for it to work. I have 4-5 areas that I always have available offline.
I have 9 maps saved that cover most any area I go to on a regular basis. If I am going to travel anywhere outside of those areas, I download them ahead of time. They don't take up a ton of space either.
All you have to do is download a map area once when you are on wifi. ...
If you wan't to spend the extra money for the built-in navigation, that's fine, but for me and the others out there that would rather not, this is a completely viable option.
I'm totally onboard with the Google offline maps, no need for navigation in the Bronco or any car. Works great, just download over wifi if you don't want to burn data. Android auto to use the Bronco screen, I assume. I do it even if I know I'll have a cell signal. It's fabulous when traveling outside the U.S. For that matter, you can download offline languages in Google Translate so you don't have to burn data, or even have a foreign SIM card, to get good translations. I'm amazed at how few people take advantage of this.
I realize it doesn't work if you truly have no idea where you're heading in advance, but it takes literally a minute or less. And most of that time is pinching and zooming to decide what you want saved on your phone!
