So is there any timeline for the new rails? Or will there be any aftermarket that will mount in the factory location?

Of course there will be after market options. But most aftermarket options block the top from being removed and require drilling in the top which I do not want to do.
What makes you say that? They don’t exist yet.

There are SO many brands that are planning to make racks with higher load ratings. I’m sure you’ll have options that defy those concerns.

To name a few: Front Runner, Prisnu, Rocky Road Outfitters, Gobi, Rhino…

Look at the Wrangler. Same kind of hard top as the Bronco and most racks (arb, rhino, etc.) do need drilling in the hard top. Plus we don’t know when they will be available.

Fair enough. I won’t mind drilling - 110 lb capacity seems pointless to me.

I’m excited to see what Rocky Road and Front Runner come up with.

Ford had previously stated they were making changes to bolt patterns for 22 to allow for roof racks on BL and Sas.
Worth noting that nobody from Ford has said anything like this on the record. It's all hearsay.

my GFC Superlite rooftop tent is 80lbs so 110 is plenty for me. Note that this is the dynamic rating but rated at 450 static.

Do we know if there might be an option for a roof rack on the soft top? Or is that just silly

Good info.

I think the thing to remember is that Ford just wont sell you a roof rack on certain MY21 builds... that doesn’t mean you can’t attach one.

If you get a Squatch in MY21, even if they redesign the roof/rack for MY22… you could still conceivably pick up the MY21 rack from the parts counter (or second hand) and attach it to your MY21 squatch.

I’m curious to see what they could change that would allow it to pass an existing CG / rollover problem… lower to the body? Rated for less weight? (Though they could just say that now.)
I know what you mean, I’ve heard this redesign a couple of times from members, but nothing from any official source, I doubt it’s real!

Strange considering you can purchase a RTT that weighs more than 110lbs directly from Ford with a warrantee? lol

Which is 110 lbs? I don’t think any of them are.

Yeah, if you’re sleeping solo that’s all fine and dandy. With the wife and kid…SOL.

I’m hindsight I should have waited for GFC Platform…now that our travel plans have changed for the summer. But, I really like the Roofnest and their customer service has been impeccable.

Fair point. It was a Ford rep speaking to a forum member at an event, IIRC.

Honestly, it seemed a little odd to me that a bolt pattern was going to allow a change related to weight and center of gravity.

Plus there was an implication that it was a change to the rack only, and not the roof. Which never really made sense to me.

Given the challenges of anything MIC or otherwise top related, no way I see any physical design change for the foreseeable future IMO. I think maybe they will do something weight wise to fix whatever the COG test didnt like. Again just my opinion. I have a 4DR BL that at least for now wont come with a roof rack, but I am also not worried, the aftermarket will have a boat load of options.
