The light is this Morimoto 5-stop: https://www.morimotohid.com/morimoto-5-stop-brake-light

I needed to cut the OEM third brake light wire connector because there’s not aftermarket connectors to mate with it. I used the deutsch connectors for my wire extension up. Example: https://a.co/d/1bk3gTn

Draw back here is those connectors are much larger than necessary, and I used two for a removable section - hard to hide them that big.

not sure what your plan is for mounting, but mine was on the Trailrax channels, which are compatible with the 25-series channel accessories from 80/20. I used the 90-degree brackets (25-4132) here’s a link: https://a.co/d/85Kpvrv

I used some M5 bolts to fasten light to bracket.

I hid the wires in the crossbar channel using the T-slot dust cover, like:
https://www.zoro.com/8020-black-economy-t-slot-cover-25-s-25-2820/i/G0823510/
Thanks for the quick write up. I think I am going to follow what you did but use a different light and mount since I do not have a roof rack.

I found this license plate mount from metal cloak that has a brake light and license plate light integrated:

https://metalcloak.com/bronco-6g-license-plate-mount-and-3rd-brake-light-kit.html

I am planning to use a KC Hilites cyclone V2 with a red cover over the included brake light since the included one looks kinda cheap.

I was hoping there would be a plug that would work with the OEM plug, but it seems like it’s best to just cut the wiring harness and put some connectors on.

I did recently purchase a 3D printer, it would be cool to design a connector that would work with the OEM one, but that could take some time… 🤔

Legal ?!? 😂. Anything “legal” Is optional in Nuevo Mejico. 🤣
Besides, everyone is driving under the influence, so lights are meaningless shiny entertainment for the locals.
Half the people don't even run license plates!

On topic, I wonder if you could modify one of the dumb ring brake lights so only the top part is illuminated. You could probably either obscure it or cut it and solder the circuit closed.

I ended up also putting a deutsch style connector on the OEM 3rd brake light unit so I’ve not lost the ability to ever “go back” if I want to. Figured that was as good as could be since I cut the OEM connector off.

One more upgrade

I never had one issue: the STP. I used to run RC STP brace and 37 BFG's, , then a month ago, I went with the Turn STP with 40 Ridge Grapplers. I take my vehicle out 2-3 times per month on some very rocky Arizona trails and have been very happy with it. The SDHQ bracket has never interfered with either setup.

there’s enough adjustability in the AAL STP to permit the OEM third brake light mounted on an extension with the AAL STP probably, but you really wouldn’t be able to see it from the drivers seat in the vehicle behind - too low and close to the STP that the angle makes it obstructed. Mounting on the STP rearmost edge, itself, or up high is a solution for that visibility.

or just rip the stock one off without a replacement and blast Judas Priest down the road like I did for awhile

On our Rubicon we just took the 3rd brake light off. Never stopped for it being missing and no problems with state inspections. The states we trave to most are Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. No issues in any of those states. For our Braptor we put on the ring.

I am running the Diode Dynamics SS Reverse Light Kit (https://www.4x4truckleds.com/diode-dynamics-stage-series-reverse-light-kit-for-2021-ford-bronco/) w/ SSC2 Sports & Baja Designs Universal Lighting License Plate Mount (https://www.4x4truckleds.com/baja-designs-universal-lighting-license-plate-mount-us-plate/)

I have the lights on the bottom, on both sides of the reverse camera (barely any of the camera view is blocked) and the license plate mount on top

my only complaint is the Baja Designs license plate mount is way beefier than it needs to be, but not 5 pounds or anything like that

if I were to do it again, I’d get SSC2 Pros instead
