I put $500 down and received a complete written accounting of all costs including sale price (msrp), title, license, taxes and fees. Had no problem doing so.

I had all that as well and signed the paperwork and wasnt asked to put any money down. I dont get why you need to put money down. Especially for how long its going to take. If it was the standard 4-6weeks like it use to be ordeing cars I wouldnt care. I dont feel like giving them money to hold for honestly who knows how long

I get all that, but look at it in a different way. Ford and my dealer make the rules for this "game" we're all playing. So when dealer asked for the refundable deposit, I gave it to them. Didn't see any need or benefit to negotiate or debate. I want his good will (for obvious reasons). Keeping $500 in a money market account these days doesn't get one much. I could have hunted for a $100 or $0 deposit dealer, but had no desire for a dealer 50 miles or farther away. Doing that now and am tired of it.

Ordered a number of sliding glass doors and windows for our lanai. Deposit was over $5k paid mid May 2021. Install was just completed yesterday. Nearly nine months. For a recent flooring project, deposit was about the same. Although wait was much shorter than the windows, they wouldn't even order materials w/o that deposit. Neither would for that matter. Deposits are a routine indicator of good faith on the buyer's part. The trick is making certain one deals w/ a reputable financially stable business.

Neither of our approaches is wrong, just different.

Take care. Contented

BTW, used to work in Bridgeville.

I was ready to give them something. Most time it was always a $200 deposit. He said he thought it was 500 but after I signed the paper work they never asked for anything so I was fine with that.

I did 100 to res then dealer asked for 400 to make it a $500 deposit pretty standard i have given a 500 deposit every time I have ordered a truck
Exactly the same here.

Not a lawyer here.... but it was stated that a signed purchase agreement showing an exchange of currency (money down at time of writing the agreement) is a powerful legal tool if the dealer decided to try and get greedy.

Yes, cash and a signed purchase agreement is what is commonly considered a contract. However, I am not a lawyer, and apparently these days you need to bring counsel along with you to order a car and not get bent over by certain dealers.

You know, the thing is, times are so bad for them right now, no new cars to sell, EMPTY lots, etc etc, you know some of them are starving , so even if you have a good dealer, it makes you nervous.

Anybody else being asked to pay $500.00 to order a 2022 Bronco? I'm going to the dealer tomorrow, and was told it'll be a $500.00 deposit, although Ford still says $100.00?!
yes, very standard! that's a good deposit...some dealers REQUIRE in excess of $2500!
just got mine delivered and they re-deposited that amount to my bank!!
