ALL FLUID SERVICE PRICING / SPECIAL NEEDS?

2023 Base 4 door 2.3L, 35k Mi.

I received dealer pricing for a fluids service:

Lube, Oil and Filter Service - $172.42
Transfer Case Fluid Service - $333.00
Transmission Service, with Fluid Filter and Gasket - $1488.66
Brake Fluid Exchange Service - $310.54
*Coolant exchange - Didn't get pricing

Questions:
* Do any of these require a dealer, with some special equipment?
* I saw the Trans fluid replacement needs you to cycle it on or something to adjust the level of fluid you swap in.
* I read somewhere the brake fluid also needs some specific steps?
* Any recommendations?

I understand most of these are not required until over 100k miles.
I also had a Escape trans implode on me at 60k miles, so i figure why not replace all the fluids.

As has been said, nothing a dealer has makes them uniquely able to do this service. People like me on this forum do it in their driveways all the time with supplies from the auto store or online.

Are you in Montclair NJ? Because those prices look like they are for the bridge-and-tunnel-crowd coming over to save on sales tax! Just go in and see these guys https://www.parkstreetauto.net/, or others like them around the area. A certified independent shop that is ASE or whatever certified can knock all that out for you - and probably let you bring your own fluids (specs and capacity in the manual) to save more money.

Extended warranties do not cover routine maintenance

I think we are having a bit of a mis communication, probably my fault.

From my understanding you had a concern that your transmission for example might fail and you want to try prevent that by increasing the maintenance on it more frequently than the service manual is requiring.

Why not address the concern directly by getting an extended warranty to cover a transmission failure and do the regular service intervals?

For example, the manual calls for trans fluid at 150,000 miles. If you do a trans flush every 35K instead of 150K you would spend $1488.66X4= $5,954.64 at that 150K mark instead of $1,488.66.

Consider sticking to what the manual calls for, wait till 150K and instead of getting those extra flushes (saving $4,466) purchase the extended warranty so you don't have to worry about your transmission failing. Those savings could get you a 10 year 125K extended warranty, that covers way more than the transmission.

Your math adds up and it makes complete and total sense

But it relies on you having faith that ~if~ you did have a failure that it would be covered by the warranty.

(Of course, the obvious counter to my own argument: changing fluids early requires you to have faith that changing the fluids early and often will prevent a failure that may or may not occur regardless of the fluids status)

I’m just here to wonder on pricing. At 5,000 miles, I got my oil changed by the dealer I bought from, because I’ve got 2 “works”certs. But the invoice for the works (oil and filter, 3000 or so point inspection, 5 tire rotation and pressure, all fluids checked and or topped - washer- etc..) was $87.
is service that much more expensive in Tx than Tn?
or should you dealer shop?

No computer is needed for any type of transmission flush or drain/fill.
The only thing needed is transmission temperature which you can see on the cluster.
Just make sure they use the correct ULV fluid

Even if it did, anyone can get an FDRS account and many shops that do domestic service will have it, too. Just call ahead or around. I know of at least three around here that do.

Not sure why this thread went the way it did, but all of that can be done by a local shop for WAY cheaper than the stealership quoted you. If you want to change fuids early, go for it. If you don't want to do it yourself, that's fine too.

Not sure why you're getting roasted because your dealership threw a stupid number at you, but at least now you know your dealership sucks!
