Damn cold ass day but wanted to let the daughter ride the Honda Rebel 500 I pudchased last fall along with my Africa Twin I picked up as well.😁
Stopped at a Starbucks to get warmed back up. Got back in just as the sun set. Daughter loved the ride but was frozen by the time we got back in.

Been riding for 47 years, starting with a 1972 Suzuki TS90J, and now riding a 2014 Triumph Explorer 1200 and 2014 Indian Chieftain. I love to ride, and hope to keep riding through my 70's. My favorite bike was a 2007 Moto Guzzi Norge - great bike.

I've been neglecting my Shadow since I brought my Bronco home. Went for 100 mile ride yesterday and it was awesome!

I found my love of motorcycles 2 years ago at the age of 45! Decided to take a course, got my license and fell in love. My first bike was a 2019 Honda Rebel 500. When we started riding and my wife sat on the back we realized this wasn't going to cut it. It's a beautiful but very small bike. Next bike was a 2003 Honda Shadow 750. It's my couch on wheels but somewhat slow. Decided to get a 2021 Ninja 650 as well. Sold the Rebel and now have the 2 bikes. Blessed to be in Florida where i can ride all year.

Whatcha got?

I have a yamaha R1 and roadraced for 8yrs, a gsxr 1000 and a Yamaha R1 which is now my track day bike. I recommend doing track days and or a riding/racing school to get your skill level upped!!

This is terrific. I'm trying to get my kids interested in riding, but my wife is adamantly opposed. I'd love to be able to ride with my kids.

I understand. My wife was opposed as well. Two of her brothers were injured on bikes.
What I got my wife to understand though is our kids are going to do what they want to do regardless of what we want. I can either let them learn on their own, or I can be a part of the learning process. I take a lot of risk in life, but also mitigate quite a bit of it. My wife finally came around to having the kids learn from me than on their own.

That said I do worry about them on bikes. Experience is gained through years and failures. Those are hard to combine on a bike. I ride with them often to assess their ability. I instilled in them all gear all the time.

I have started my grandson on dirt bikes. Motorcycles are far safer for kids than 4 wheelers. The fear factor keeps their speeds in check on a bike. I can't tell you how many kids I've seen seriously injured or killed on 4wheelers but I've yet to see one through our ER that was on a bike. There are several studies that show how much safer a motorcycle is offroad for kids than 4 wheelers.

In the end it's what you are all comfortable with. Life is full of risk. It's how you mitigate it that matters.
