Just some quick pics of the new set up, installed during a snowfall , lol.
NO LIFT ... crash bars have been removed
Method 703 "Bead Grips" in Gloss Titanium
17 x 8.5 +35mm
Toyo Open Country A/T 3
35 x 11.5 - 17 ... load range C
Wheel 28.7 lbs
Tire ... 63 lbs
let say .. 92lbs total

No rub at static height or full droop, not even close.... haven't flexed it upwards yet (stuffed).
Just the 2.25" of added height really change the look of this thing. She's one burly bitch now! LOL
I thought I wanted the 33.9" 285/75 , but these became available first, load range C ... so I jumped. I'm glad I did!

Drive-ability ... These 35's have pushed the manual from being very over geared to just slightly under geared, very slightly. I actually prefer the way it drives now. 1st is much more useable and the 1-2 shift is A LOT smoother. It's like 1st was too low and second was too close of a gear but not quite enough to launch from , so it made the 1-2 shift pretty jerky. I'm not the only one who has mentioned the same feeling about the manuals 1-2 shift.
If I had to guess, I'd say a 33" 285/70-17 would have nailed it.
Now to the pics , if you haven't already scrolled past all this drivel.

Look at the back of the tire, you can just see the sway bar. Full droop, left steering lock

crash bar (stub) at droop, right lock:

Yes I have the proper spare, just not on it yet.... LOL

Those look so good I might copy exactly the wheels and tires for my OBX 4dr that is scheduled for 3/28.

Daring, that's what I think. LOL
Have you seen somebody pull that off to good effct?
I know painting them straight white can be an excellent way to achieve the retro look.
There's a number of rigs here doing that.

I considered going after the scrub brush safari truck look, but couldn't source the proper sized steelies to achieve it. Some Black Diamond wheels in white or argent silver would probably work.
I think M/T has a 255/85-17 coming out ... TALL and skinny ... 35 x 10 I think is what that equates to. Plus, I was afraid to go that skinny, thinking it would look odd.
I think it could be done though ... and be badass!!!
255/85-16 on my base 2 door with no lift. plenty of room.

I like em skinny, and these things (although overkill @ load range E) are pretty comfortable. I run them at about 32 psi all the time, but air down to 18-20 psi when wheeling, she does great.

That looks GREAT!!!
I could have saved a TON of cash, lol!

I have to air the 35's down to 33-ish also. They get pretty stiff and jittery at 36/37 as it has warmed up outside.

@HoosierDaddy just checking in and seeing how the setup has been treating you! I was thinking about these tires the other day and would love to hear how they've held up and how your other components have been with this setup since changing. 💪

I went with the same Toyo tires but in 285/75R17 (33.9x11.3” rather than the 34.5x11.4” of the 35x11.5R17 and 4# lighter) on the same size +35mm Methods but in the 705’s. With the 4.70 gearing in my manual Badlands this feels like a ideal setup. Drivability and handling are great, first gear feels better, and sixth gear is still very usable above 55 mph. I’m getting 18.25 MPG hand calculated (19.5 on the computer) on highway trips with a cruise speed of 70 mph. These tires still grab and sling some rocks, so I went with the RokBlokz and IAG add on steps. Mine is all stock, but I did buy a 1” leveling kit I haven’t installed yet.

Thanks for the insight! That doesn't sound bad at all. Now I have more to think about haha definitely want a few more inches above the stock BFGs (I'm non sas Badlands with Method 705s, 0 offset has been perfect for me)

Can you drop some pictures?🙂

The stock non SAS BFG’s are 32.8” tall, the 285/75 are 1.1” taller and the 35x11.5 are 1.7” taller. I like the taller than stock of mine, but I’m fine without having gone for the extra .6” for how I use my truck.

Love the setup. The wheel color is perfect. Trying to get away from black.

That looks really nice!!!

My first thoughts were towards the 285/75's also, but as stated, back then bigger tires were VERY hard to find. When those 35's showed up after 6000 page refreshes over a few weeks, I was all BAM!!! SOLD!!!!
LOL

Hindsight (experience) now tells me that a solid 33" tire would probably be the tallest ideal for the 4.46 gear set in a manual.
I'd LOVE to try out 35's on a V6 Black Diamond nonSquatch ... that would be V6/auto/ 4.46's.

Thought I would throw in my own experience since this thread helped me decide on my final config. Put AT3 315/70s on 17 in RTRs w +30. It has the perfect poke for my liking and zero rub and color match is spot on w carbon grey. Also added 1" front level kit from RC and to be honest it's 3/8 higher in front now. I'll put that down to the added weight of new wheel plus RC gate reinforcement and the large tire offset w light extension (with this set up the added offset attachment and brake light extension for larger tires not needed. 37 s maybe so I'll likely remove it one day)

Only issue I have had is traction control will kick in when body rolls coming into an even small bump on a trail or pavement at near full lock.

i wonder why your traction control would activate. wouldnt that mean that you are rubbing and slowing a tire speed down enough to turn it on?

Yes I would agree. I have had two people look at it and cant find any rub areas.
I even took some Vaseline w food color and wiped it on areas I thought it might catch.
Nothing.
Other option is the alignment is off but they were supposed to realign after the front lift.

Is that CV axle already rusting?
The CV axles on my days-old less than 200 miles in south Texas BD are really rusty and almost pitted and flaking. Some rust on the spindle casting also. Does @Fordmotorcompany store these parts outside or something? Pretty peeved. I’m in South Texas.
