So Stanley finally got his new shoes… Actually ordered Toyo Open Country but my local shop was shipped Geolanders instead and they offered me the Geos for the same price as the Toyo's. I took the deal. 6000 miles on the stock base 30’s and it always felt like 1st and 2nd were way too quick. The 33” tire has completely changed the feel of this truck. If I knew more about gear ratios I would probably understand what’s happening but I swear this Bronco was made for the 33” tire on the MT. Loved this thing already but wholly F••• what a difference.

I hear you on the E load. Still early for me hope it doesn’t become an issue. I can say it feels fine so far.

Looks pretty freaking tough !!!!

There a good many people that think the 33 is ideal for the 4.46/7mt combo.
I overshot with the 35's on my 7mt Base, it's still easily drivable, but you can tell it'd be happier on 33's.

The two door is definitely in its prime with 32s-33s... I went to 35s and it was immediately not as sporty. Still thinking about getting a set of takeoffs and going back to those for daily.

The manual Sas with stock 34.4" tires comes with 4.7. 4.46 vs 4.7 seems such a small difference, I think only a couple hundred rpm? Is it really that much of a performance difference?

If 4.46 is a dog with 34.4 tires, you'd think 4.7 would not be much better.

Maybe it's also partly the case that some of you running aftermarket 35" tires, have sufficiently increased tire weight with your selection, in some cases 70lb tires? In comparison, the stock Sas tire is only 52lbs.

This is perfect. I got a Black Diamond so I could have a manual 4 door, but on certain colors I love those silver steel wheels even more than my black ones.

How hard is it to get your bike up on the roof? My Bronco is a soft top so I'll be using a hitch mount, but it was always a pain loading the roof basket on our 4Runner and that had steps.

A simple calculation:

4.46 (differential)
35" (tire diameter)
65 mph
---------
2858 (direct 1:1 transmission drive)

4.7 (differential)
35" (tire diameter)
65 mph
---------
3011 (direct 1:1 transmission drive)

So the difference in engine rpm for the above, is only 153 rpm. For that reason, I'm surprised some of you are finding such a difference in vehicle performance between 4.46 and 4.7 differential gears. Is there some other ingredient I'm missing?

I use a two step ladder and its not too bad. I am always worried about dropping the bike but as of now no real problems.

I've wondered about this also.
I need to run these on a gearing comparator and see what it churns out.
(Grimmjeeper.com has a really nice one)
Knowing what I know now, my "seat of the pants" experience, I would not be surprised to find that 5.13's would be a better gear for the manual and 35's.
I can only speculate why Ford doesn't do that.

LOL,
So, the factory gearing I hate in the low gears ALMOST nets me the rpm's the motor likes at Interstate speeds.
( Mine seems to like 2600/2700)

Ratios needed to get 2500-ish at 78mph (6th gear)

(30.1 )30" tire and 4.46 = 2512
(32.8) 33" tire and 4.70 = 2426
(34.5) 35" tire and 5.13 = 2517
(36.5) 37" tire and 5.38 = 2495

To put the motor where I think it is happy, you have to move the gear ratios up one position .... so 2647rpm w/ 30" tire and 4.7  wtf?

I need to dork around with this some more...

Interesting, comparing the 1st couple tranny gears ... 4.46 with 30.1 and 34.5 tires ... there is only two or three mph difference at 3k and 4000 rpm ... yet seat of the pants , there is a world of difference!

By comparison...
4.46/32.8 charts out the same as 4.7/34.5

Hmmmm..... verly interesting.....
