2023 base 2.3 w/ 10 speed auto. Installed 255/85r16 (33.1”) Falken M/Ts upon delivery. Drove those for 36,000 miles before they got noisy and the base steel wheels started rusting. Then I swapped on a set of 285/75r17 (32.8”) BFG KO3s wrapped around a set of black diamond alloy takeoff wheels.
I’ve had it on forest service roads in the Cascades, through muddy Appalachian trails, over tall Michigan sand dunes, up and down the beaches of the Outer Banks. Also going on four seasons of Michigan winter - including deep snows and an intense February drive during a snow storm to the Upper Peninsula. Oh, and several “shake down” runs at the local off road park to test and confirm capability.
In all the instances above, I’ve never felt the base was incapable of navigating a situation. I’ve never needed momentum to “bump” over obstacles, which can happen with open diffs on low grip surfaces. The open diffs just don’t seem to be an issue with the grippier tires (aired down when off road, of course), and choosing smart lines over obstacles.
Very happy with the capability. The build quality and recalls have me concerned with reliability after ~100,000 miles. But I’ve got a few years before I need to get too worried about that. Really want to get it out in the San Juan mountains of Colorado for some rockier terrain.
