Correct that's the setup. It feels fine at those speeds. It does go into 10th however leaving it in sport will get you better mpg at highway speeds. It locks it into 8th and essentially stays out of boost completely. 10th gear is in boost at speed and knocks mpg down 1-2 depending on the day. I daily it in sport all the time and I'm really happy with it.
I was just about to suggest this. There were times where my aftermarket exhaust would drone a little bit around 65 MPH in 10th gear, the solution in my case was to go to Manual Mode and downshift to 8th gear - which stayed out of boost, so no drone.

I guess the 4x4 change would be from Part time to Full time 4x4?
The axle might not count as a major change, but going from part-time to full-time 4x4 definitely does, because it's a chassis change from (two door) E5A to E5C or (4 door) E5B to E5D; same as going from 2 door to 4 door.

This answers my question exactally! Now I can go non-Sas with confidence.
Thank you so much, you just saved me $5,000!

Did you research your lift? What did you end up going with?
U was thinking Lift / Level combo...

Does the Axle not count as a "A 4x4 system" change?
It doesn't matter. Option/trim changes may affect the Ford price protection credit amount, but not eligibility. The credit is fair. You lose eligibility if you change trim to raptor/limited.

That said, confirm with your dealer because they could choose to raise their price and "steal" your credit.

My recently departed from me bronco with Sport mode on with 3.73 with 8th gear lock out was more gearing that 10th gear with 4.71 (5-6% lower). Math proves a point! If you stick with some SAS take off wheels and tires vs my heavy 35s it would be about perfect. 3.73 and no sport mode is terrible on the freeway and the reason I say no 37"+ tires.

I did the zone spacer kit and I've been happy with it. No clunks or weird noises after install and it absorbs bumps like stock, just has a little more body roll now. If you plan on wheeling it I really suggest sasquatch as those locking diffs make the bronco another animal on rocks. For sand and easy trails lockers aren't needed.

No worries, you will probably be plenty happy with the 2.3 and maybe even consider a 33-34" tire, especially if you are going for a look.

There are now several Broncos at work. Here is my stock obx suspension 33.5" Bronco vs a stock OBX Bronco. It doesn't take much to butch up the Bronco!

That's just rims and tires!

Now, let's keep the same rims and tires and add a 0.6" lift

Super helpful post,

This is all been very helpful as I'm going to put some new wheels & tires on my 3.73 geared OBX. I have two options I'm considering:
  • A set of Wildtrak take-off wheels & tires (Goodyear Territory MT's 315/70/R17 = 34.6") or
  • A set of Badlands take-off wheels & tires (BF Goodrich KO2's 285/70/R17 = 33")
Thoughts? I can get either set for a great price. My OBX is a 2.3L 10-speed auto as well. To be honest, this Bronco is a daily-driver and will see some mild off-roading, but nothing crazy.

Thanks!!

Just go for the 35". Tons of people already switching to 35" without concern. I've spoken endlessly about this with my parts guy and my dealership and they've assured me that unless youre going nuts with rock crawling and such, your car can handle 35" plenty.

Even from a mileage standpoint, most aren't seeing a huge change.

I'm slated to switch my Big Bend out to 35" in a couple weeks and i'm really not concerned at all after speakign to so many people.

What are the biggest tires I can use with the Non-Sas 3.73?
Im concerned if I go to a 35" it will start to effect drivability + many other things.
Is there some sort of chart, that has recomended ratio to tire size?
I'm Running 33s on may Base stock height, with no problems had to remove the crash bars because of the offset, but other than that all good!

Thank you @cyoungk !

I've been digging around on tire sites as well. IF Discount Tire is correct:
  • The Goodyear Territory MT (C Rated) 315/70/R17 Weighs 52lbs per TireRack.com
  • The BF Goodrich KO2 (C Rated) 285/70/R17 Weighs 51lbs (also per TireRack.com)
So the WIldtrak SAS Wheel & Tire combo's weight is negligible compared to the 33" Badlands combo!

I have the base nonSAS and I really just want the big bronco look. (Too poor to start offroading till I graduate). Has anyone ever tried the 37" tires with a lift on the base with the 3.7 gear ratio? It sounds like it would definitely make it slower and can't be used for offroad anymore, but I can compromise with that for now. I only use it to look cool hauling my dirt bike around anyway.

With the right lift it would be fine, and yes, it would still be ok off-road with some caveats.

You would want to be gentle with the steering rack and the front axle. In other words, just slamming thru obstacles wouldn't be prudent. That said, a little mechanical empathy will go a long way in preventing broken bits.
