Ford Wants Billboards to Beam Distracting Ads to Screens Inside Your Car (vice.com)

The company's patent filing describes a system that would equip cars with billboard-reading sensors, allowing cars to scan roadside signs for relevant information and then display them on screens inside smart cars. For example, driving past a McDonald's billboard would cause image and text recognition algorithms to automatically interpret the ad's contents, like an address or phone number, and then transmit that information to your car's dashboard display.

You know, the screens you're supposed to avoid staring at in order to avoid crashing.
The patent filing also describes generating hyperlinks for internet-connected cars based on data gathered from segments of billboard images.

Like the one that appears on my Chevrolet warning me not to take my eyes off the road?

if past is prologue, look for automakers to convince NHTSA this needs to be mandatory in ALL vehicles

Ford patents every idea they ever have. Most patents never see the light of day.

Remember the patent Ford held for being able to remove the door skins from the tube doors they slid on to? We'll never see it but Ford filed for it.

Actually is brilliant, Ford is assuming that you are not driving the car.

Bingo! This is the entire reason companies want autonomous cars. They aren’t trying to make driving safer. They are trying to flood you with advertising on your phone (and now maybe your car’s screen) so while your car is driving you, you are online shopping, spending more money, etc.

As a Ford customer and driver, I say that's a horrible and completely unsafe idea. As a Ford shareholder, I say DO IT and get that ad revenue 😂

Please allow me to perfectly clear.

FUCK THAT!

Im willing to put up with Ford’s delayed launch, but this is an invasion of privacy. If this is true, and we can’t turn it off permanently Ford can keep their Bronco. This kind of corporate force fed content is legit offensive to me.

that is all.
