Looks like the Bronco went up on the hood of the Crown Vic which as long as the Bronco doesn't enter the passenger compartment of the Crown Vic and the Crown Vic doesn't cause the Bronco to roll is the best case scenario for both drivers. Means a lot of the forcers were transferred into the ground instead of into the vehicles.
And our bodies. Lol. Still sore but very thankful and blessed

Speed is only one of several factors in determining the severity of the accident. The more accurate measure of severity would be force, part of which is determined by speed. However the mass of the two vehicles relative to one another has a much greater impact. (i.e. I'd rather get hit by a Fiat going 100 mph vs a Freight Train at 20 mph)

I believe what you are getting at is each vehicle will absorb 50% of the force, which in a purely scientific sense is true (there are environmental factors that will skew this distribution a little but for the purpose of this conversation we will consider them to be de minimis). Since Force = mass x acceleration and both vehicles will experience the same force, the bigger vehicle will experience less acceleration than the smaller vehicle (this acceleration is what is considered to be the "impact") therefore giving the perception that the accident was less violent towards the occupants of the larger vehicle. This why in auto accidents (or any collision for that matter) the larger vehicle will continue to move "forward" while the smaller vehicle will change direction to match that of the larger vehicle (or some variation of it).

The introduction of crumple zones to vehicles is what allows the vehicle to absorb acceleration (or deceleration) without transferring it to the passenger compartment. This is why you are more likely to walk away from accident today than in the 1950s/60s, but you are also more likely to sustain major damage to your vehicle than in the 1950s/60s.
This is again is partially correct 😂. When the vehicles are somewhat close in weight, like these two vehicles, the velocity makes up a larger portion of the kinetic energy, .5MV^2. So, while I'd rather be hit by a fiat doing 100MPH vs a freight train doing 20MPH, I'd also rather be hit by a Crown Vic doing 50 vs a fiat doing 100MPH

I said speed was only one of the factors, I did not say that it wasn't a factor. As you point out, the velocity has a direct relationship to the initial force of the impact.

Also, the post I responded to said that speed was split evenly between the two vehicles, which is not correct, the force is split between the two vehicles and absent any external elements such as breaking or friction the two vehicles would end up traveling in the same direction at the same speed after forces equalized between the two vehicles.

This is my Bronco. My heart is broken but we all are at home safe. I drove a Jeep for years and absolutely loved it. When Ford introduced this Bronco I couldn’t get to the computer fast enough to order it. I’m a 43 yr old female that’s not really into vehicles and don’t know much about them. My husband and son helped me pick this one out and after a year I finally received it. I was blown away. Everything about this vehicle is amazing. It held up like a beast. I received my Bronco on Dec 17th. Had surgery on Dec 21. I had only driven it a few days before I become a passenger due to my surgery. The surgery I had was serious and personal but to walk away from that crash with only 5 stitches is unheard of. God is good. Ford is tough and I will DEFINITELY be ordering another. I will keep everyone posted on the insurance and how they all turns out so everyone will know if anything like this happens to another Bronco Owner. I pray it doesn’t. Yes we really were going around 50 mph and it was down a mild hill. Not sure on the other car. Last minute swerve from my husband was an excellent decision due to my circumstances still healing from surgery. FORD has impressed me far above than I could have imagined. Man…. I loved my Bronco and can’t wait to get another. Impressive FORD super Impressive and job well done.
It might be important to point out that the Jeep does not have the full compliment of airbags that the Bronco does. Ford went out of their way to add airbags that are not technically required for this class of vehicle.

This was the reply asking if they crash tested the bronco with sasquatch package. Strange they don't test since a large number are sold that way from the factory.

Thanks for contacting the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. No, the ratings for the 2021 Ford Bronco do not apply to the Sasquatch package. Unfortunately, I am unable to speculate of its safety since it has not been tested by us.

Such good news to know our Broncos were build tough! It is especially good to know someone post surgery in the passenger seat is OK. One less Badlands on the road is a shame. I hope you are able to replace your Bronco soon.

Unfortunately alcohol abuse is accepted in our society. We all know the heartbreak drunk driving can cause. So this post is a good remember for the next time any of us pick up our keys after having a few. Drive safe!

A car moving downhill has more potential energy than a car moving up hill at the same speed. The vic was more easily deflected away because of this if we assume they were both moving at 50 mph.

Honestly, I didn't select the Sasquatch package due to concerns about several points. Crash safety was one of them, but speed and road conditions on 35's can't be as responsive as the 33's IMHO.

It looks like the Broncos were built to fold up the steering wheels to provide more crash resistance since this is what we see on this Badlands, and the IIHS crash test.
