Let me start by saying, maybe it's just me, wouldnt be the first time. So I removed the center console lid because I am going to install/apply Redline's leather cover and in the process, may have discovered that the lid came installed incorrectly from the factory three years ago.

I know that I have seen others on here comment how the console lid seems like a bad design because it doesn't stay up on its own. To the contrary, it falls down on you everytime you try to get something out.
After I took the lid off and then popped off the vinyl top half of the lid, I went to put the shell back on temporarily while I get the leather cover on the top half installed. I noticed two spring loads on either side of the console and when I reinstalled the lid (what I think is the correct way) I experienced this phenomena.

Who would have thunk it. I am quite pleased. If no one else has ever had this thought and their console was put together correctly, ignore me.

Wait - so my top doesn't stay up and just falls down all the time.

Are you saying I can take the console apart and there are likely two springs that were not installed correctly at the factory and I can hook up the springs differently and the lid will stay up?

That's what I am suggesting and when you see where they fit into, it is only logical that they were meant to be there instead of where they were positioned at the factory. Again that's my opinion. Below are the springs where I think they were meant to be positioned. Oh by the way, it will take you all of five minutes.

Oddly enough, someone posted up some 3D prints that fix this same issue. Interesting all you had to do was reposition the springs.

Regarding these pictures: Is this where you found the springs clipped in or where they need to be clipped to provide the lift you're showing in the video?

My lid acts like the cookie monster and tries to eat my hands every time I open it.

Those are where they need to be, not where they were.

Well that's hopeful for me, my lid has never stayed open from new.

Sorry the video isn't working for you Ken. It's neat, now all of a sudden the lid is spring loaded. No shim needed and the lid functions as I believe intended.
I took mine apart and springs are in the location you show in the photo but mine does not spring open. still falls down as it always has. I just ordered a set of the shims mentioned in the other post. other folks have mentioned it but I think there is a variance in the spring tension that may also impact the ability of it to stay open. hoping the shims solve this issue.

Yeah, mine appear to be in the correct location already too. Oh well.

See video clip:

Is this just because you haven't put the top back on? So it's lighter and not weighed down?

Interesting though because mine doesn't feel spring loaded at all so now I'm curious.
