I have thoughts on how to do this correctly, but litigation keeps me from expressing them. Everyone is free to drill whatever they want, but I would suggest not and figuring out a way of making things stronger instead of more swiss.I figure the shock mount is so close to the tire that it won’t be much of a problem???
Isn't better just to get spacer instead of messing around with the previously engineered shock mount?Anyone see any issues with repositioned rear lower shock mount bolts???
I plan to drill new holes 2.5” higher up and then reinstall the shocks. This should lift the rear about 2.5 inches. If I like the way it rides, then I'll cut the same 2.5” off the bottom of the ridiculously low shock mounts. Then the clearance will be the same as the trailing bar mounts on the axle itself.
Any thoughts before I get the tools out?
No, that’s not what he’s talking about doing at all.I’m failing to see how you would do what you’re describing? It certainly appears that the upper shocks mount in a strut pocket that’s part of the frame, meaning you’d have to cut out the entire pocket and fabricate a new upper mount. You might want to put down the Dremel…
The reasoning is you want as little stuff hanging below the axle as possible. Look at how the big boys do it.Isn't better just to get spacer instead of messing around with the previously engineered shock mount?
It looks like too much work and risk when you already have aftermarket options to lift the Bronco.
Sorry, I misread it the first time. I just had knee surgery and can’t go look under my Bronco just yet.No, that’s not what he’s talking about doing at all.

That's exactly what I had in mind!Sorry, I misread it the first time. I just had knee surgery and can’t go look under my Bronco just yet.
Looking at the other picture it should work, I’d want to weld in a gusset to strengthen the mount, and probably weld some thick flat washers to the outsides of the holes. it’d be great if a 2” rear lift could be accomplished with simple holes in the bracket.
Drill relocate and test. Cut much later after a few weeks of driving. Here's a pic of the idea so folks don't need to climb under to see.
