no recalls listedYou have to go online to see recalls. ford.com... just got mine back yesterday for a windshield recall repair (3 day repair).
Tis a joke of courseAre you okay?
Iāve had 4 non drive able updates since the last power up around Christmas. Each of these 4 has popped up telling me to schedule or run now, with very clear information on how long the update will take and that the Bronco will need to be parked and off for that time.Want to clarify the Ford response and give some things to consider.
The updates that are considered "non drivable" will give you an alert that it is available and to schedule when you want it to run. In this case yes, you will need to have the vehicle parked, brake set, have it scheduled to run in your app (suggested late night when cell and wi-fi traffic is lite and vehicle has little to no chance of being used). To date, I have not seen any OTAs for bronco that have been the "non-drivable" type, all so far have been the standard download and run in the background.
Some things that can cause issues with normal updates: lower battery state of charge (this is a pid we can see in FDRS and not specifically tied to battery voltage or capacity test). If you're a short tripper or the vehicle sits for extended amounts of time without being driven, this can affect SOC.
Poor cell connectivity to the vehicle (AT&T coverage in your area), your vehicle not connected to your home wi-fi network. I have no proof any of these OTAs are using wi-fi in any capacity and what our dash board says, directly contradicts my theory wi-fi is involved. See screen shot of my VHR below. Even though it says wi-fi not required, my gut says they may use it as a backup if or when cell has problems communicating. Again, don't take this for fact but it's based on things that have happened on other vehicles after hitting our dealer wi-fi.
The information you get about the update is no better than what we see so no, I can't specifically see what was changed in the background with the exception of the SYNC version and maybe some new calibration numbers (short of having FDRS hooked up and digging around).
My suggestion is to either leave your OTA settings to allow automatic updates or turn them off completely. Not that the scheduled update setting is causing problems, it's an additional step the system has to take which could lead to problems if conditions aren't ideal. If Ford does release a "non-drivable" update you will be alerted and asked to schedule it. At that point you can choose to do so or disregard it. The other option is to take into the dealer and let them perform updates with the FDRS which is supposed to be more "reliable" (whole other can of worms I'm not going to discuss) than cell or wi-fi networks. Plenty a module has been bricked due to corrupt software on Ford's servers but overall, in shop is better than OTA.
I need more foil for my hat, but ya. Thanks for the offer.Would you like a tour of Area 51?
So exactly how is someone supposed to leave the lights in an off position and not in the Auto Setting? If you turn off your lights, exit the vehicle and lock it, it will return the switch back to the auto mode.Ford In Vehicle Technology customer service rep recommendations to avoid a "Brick" in the future, "A "Brick" could happen if the update is scheduled at or around 12am. You also need to have parking brake on at night with lights completely off and not in the auto setting. We recommend 1am for the scheduled update time. Some of the other the air updates may have a requirement that the parking brake be on with the lights fully off so please do this on the nights you have scheduled for updates."
Interesting. Did it say what they were for?Iāve had 4 non drive able updates since the last power up around Christmas. Each of these 4 has popped up telling me to schedule or run now, with very clear information on how long the update will take and that the Bronco will need to be parked and off for that time.
Your headlight switch will turn by itself? So exactly how is someone supposed to leave the lights in an off position and not in the Auto Setting? If you turn off your lights, exit the vehicle and lock it, it will return the switch back to the auto mode.
