Now that's a great question.Curious to know why it was run in 4th gear, and not 7th which is 1:1
You never d’uno in the high gear. You always dyno in 3rd or 4th gear. It’s where the usable power is.Curious to know why it was run in 4th gear, and not 7th which is 1:1
You dyno in the 1:1 gear to get the most accurate BHP calculation. That's 3rd or 4th gear in a large number of 5 and 6 speed cars. You never d’uno in the high gear. You always dyno in 3rd or 4th gear. It’s where the usable power is.
7th gear you’d be at top speed of the car.
Like mentioned above, dyno runs should be performed in whatever gear is closest to 1:1 ratio. In the 10 speed that is 7th.You never d’uno in the high gear. You always dyno in 3rd or 4th gear. It’s where the usable power is.
7th gear you’d be at top speed of the car.
That also has different gear ratios though.F150 Raptor dynos in 5th gear
That also has different gear ratios though.
Exactly. Doesn't sound like much, but it is. Either way, after doing some calculations it seems like the Braptor would hit the speed limiter in any gear over 5th, so I guess that's why they don't run it in a 1:1 gear. Could have got better results than 4th gear thoughWarthog >> 4.7
Raptor >> 4.1
All hope for the future is lost the f-150 raptor is 1:1 in 7th gear also. Specific cars don’t “dyno” in specific gears, they dyno them in their 1:1 gear. End of story.F150 Raptor dynos in 5th gear
Let me look for the trans gear ratio
1st | 4.71:1 |
2nd | 2.99:1 |
3rd | 2.14:1 |
4th | 1.76:1 |
5th | 1.52:1 |
6th | 1.27:1 |
7th | 1:1 |
8th | 0.85:1 |
9th | 0.68:1 |
10th | 0.63:1 |
Reverse | 4.88:1 |
This! And trying to run these tires significantly above their limits is *likely not the best idea*.You're missing the point. If you were to take the F150 Raptor and run it in 7th gear, you'd hit the speed limiter at 4300RPM, which is well below the redline and peak HP. You're not going to get a full idle-to-redline chassis dyno run in a 1:1 gear unless you can figure out a way to defeat the PCM speed limiter.
Same for the Bronco Raptor; you'll still only be at 4500RPM when redline and peak HP come at 5400RPM.
It can't be done. End of story.
