Looking at the same ZROADZ R1's slider/steps since I have a 9 years old that needs to climb into the back seats. Wanted dual functions as a slider, not rock crawler but desert explorer so hoping not not need to 'slide' much but here for protection. How do you like them?ZRoadz slider/steps and RekGen XL. Still don't love the flaps but they serve their purpose well. O've only heard a few rocks ding off the rails since putting them on. Zero off the doors.
I love them for me. I like the look, they're sturdy and while mine haven't taken any hits I have no doubt they would do their job for the level of off roading I would get into. That said, they do (like any other slider/step combo) ride pretty darn high. I don't require a step to get in and out of the Bronco, but my wife does. To use these she still has to grab the handle I installed on the roll cage and the one on the dash and heft herself up into it. It's doable but a bit of a pain for her, especially with some recent health issues. I've actually got some Rock Slide Engineering steps in the garage waiting to be installed for that reason. I still think the ZRoadz are a great product, just know what you're getting as these are not running boards.
I was underneath doing an oil change this weekend, and there are a few rock chips through the finish on them, but they seem to be keeping the rock chips off the doors along with the flaps. I have a nasty rock chip on both doors from the drive home picking up the Bronco. Had these waiting in the garage, installed the next morning, and no new chips. Have yet to use them as sliders, but they will keep car doors from dinging you as well.
