This is very much by design. Since most people have their key fob in their pocket, if you get carjacked the designers want the vehicle to be able to be driven away. You're a lot safer having them drive away then get stuck the next time they put it in park, rather than having it lock up with you right there. That's when the assailant starts getting violent with you instead of the vehicle.I guess it’s just amazing to me that cars today allow this to happen.
I was able to use my phone to restart, but I couldn’t get it out of park.
A few years ago before all of our cars had these fobs my wifes boss at the time had her drive him to court in his Mercedes. Later that day she was supposed to pick him up but couldn't find the key. She was freaking out thinking she lost her bosses keys. Turns out he had them all along. He got an uber back to the office LOL.
