That's a shame, and just before the holidays.
>>>
"Jeep Cherokee ..... the company had no comment about the future of that make and model.

“This is an important vehicle in the lineup, and we remain committed long term to this mid-size SUV segment,” Jodi Tinson, a Stellantis spokesperson, said in a statement."

Maybe there's a retro Cherokee XJ in their future?

The new Cherokee is frankly godawful, and other than the name, bears no resemblance to the classic XJ.

Ok, it probably has all the same electrical gremlins...

Jeep has way too many vehicles which are essentially badge engineered Fiats with new sheet metal. A retro Cherokee that actually honored the Cherokee heratige would sell like hotcakes.

I bought a Cherokee when my son was born in 2015 because I was driving a Wrangler TJ with a 3” lift, and getting him in and out of the back was pain in the ass. The Cherokee was a great dad car for me, but its purpose was much different than my TJ. Once my son was old enough to climb in and out of the TJ we sold the Cherokee. Long story short the Cherokee was a great dad car for me and I appreciated driving it, but some sort of XJ retro reboot would be sweet.

Unfortunately it was just a matter of time. They’ve been considering closing this plant since back in 2009.

Fiat has said for years that the only reason they bought Chrysler was Jeep and the Dodge Ram and Stellantis has made a point of streamling their products. Fiat started this by breaking Ram away from Dodge and then discontinuing unprofitable products.

Chrysler & Dodge will more likely be memories in another year or so.

Likely had more to do with the facility than it does with the model. Cherokee has regularly been their top selling model by volume for many years.

Under 100,000 units last year. Just over 30,000 units this year.

It's dated and kind of "blah".

The larger Grand Cherokee outsells it 2-3 to 1

No loss there... My wife had a 2016 Cherokee latitude that was the biggest, steaming heap of garbage ever. Electronics were wonky as hell and the whole vehicle would shut off randomly on hot days at stoplights almost like the ECU was overheating or something. The crappy transmission would randomly shift back into first after you were already stopped and buck you like a mule. On top of all that, the motor got a weird knock and started misfiring at 60k miles... Swapped coils and put new plugs in thinking it was just a bad coil or plug, and cylinder misfire did not move.

Ended up trading that POS in for a 2014 4runner that now has almost 150k and it's been absolutely flawless so far. Best decision we ever made getting rid of that car.

Is that due to demand, or because it's less profitable than other models competing for the same parts?

The Belvidere Assembly Plant only manufactures the Cherokee. So, nothing else in the plant to compete with parts.
