I lost my key(i think) so if i were to grab a fob from online, how would I get it programmed?

I saw some instructions but they required BOTH keys to be present...i only have 1 at the moment.

You have to take it to a dealer to get programmed, that's why a lot of people buy a third key while they still have the original 2. You can buy a key for say $80 that you might not ever need, or you can pay $400 to get a new key at the dealer when you lose one. Basically it's insurance for something that might never happen to save you money in case it does.

You could try a locksmith , but I don't know if they can program it

@Lifeliberty is correct.

The reason why it requires two keys is so someone canā€™t just secretly ā€œborrowā€ your key and made a bunch of duplicates without your knowledge. Requiring both keys is an added safety measure.

Dealerships can do it as well as a handful of locksmiths. Bring several hundred dollars with you, itā€™s not cheap.

The right locksmith should be able to program the key for you and will be a lot cheaper than the dealer.

Are you sure it didnā€™t fall out of your pocket, and slide between the seat and center console? I say that because I thought I lost my key. I figured I was going to have to get a new key too. I couldnā€™t find it anywhere. Before I did anything, I pushed the start button, and it fired up. I knew then the fob was somewhere in the Bronco. Finally found it, LOL!

Yes, when you find the key or have to get a 2nd one, buy a 3rd one off Amazon for 50$ and program yourself. Insurance!

You have a couple of choices. In addition to what was already said about getting a fob and having either the dealer (very expensive) or locksmith (still somewhat expensive) program the new key, you can get a fob and a programmer. Tom's Key Company rents a programmer for $60 that will allow you to self-program a new key fob when you have only one key. You'd have to wait to receive the fob and programmer, but you might save some money. I bought a fob for our Escape and shopped around for a locksmith to program it (our year doesn't have self-program capability, even with two keys), and mobile locksmiths were generally over $100-$150.

Call your insurance company and ask you have "lost key" coverage. A lot of times it's automatically included in a full-coverage policy with $0 deductible.

Nobody has mentioned machining of the key blank. I've never used it, so curious if I would ever need it copied too? Since I only got 1 key with my Bronco I guess I'll be seeing my Dealer soon.
