Old school guy asking what might be dumb question - can a 6G Pop Start with a drained battery? I’m guessing a fully dead battery has no chance?

sorry but this is my first vehicle built this century.

Nope, pop start a no go. I don't think it's even possible to release the parking brake w/o battery either...brilliant

I thought someone tried it a while back, and it would work as long as there was enough voltage for the ECUs (i.e. too weak to start, but enough voltage for the electronics)

I make a point to only use the parking brake when the engine is running.

Hadn't heard...by all accounts I have seen it's a no go but I could be wrong.

M/T owners don't have that option unless you want the Bronco rolling away. I would much prefer a manual lever.

Other parts of the world call that a "bump start", or maybe a "push start".

The best way to find out if you can bump start a vehicle is to try it before you actually need to do it. Park at the top of a hill, on the downward slope, turn it off, stick it in neutral and let it start rolling, then push the "start" button without hitting the brake at the same time, put it in gear, let out the clutch, and see what happens. I have much more experience doing this with motorcycles, but I've done it a few times with my Mustang. Usually you want to be in second or third gear to put less stress on the drivetrain.

If you have a manual transmission Bronco, go try this and report back.

That's why you park it in 1st gear. Only time I use the parking brake is when I am idling at the ATM, or getting the mail. But Phoenix is pretty flat, I haven't parked on a hill in 2-3 decades.

So it doesn't roll away when you leave it in neutral with the engine running to get your mail.

Several instances of rollaway due to the small engine size coupled with the heavy vehicle weight when left in gear and brake not applied. Threads with pictures on here.

That's why I park in crawler gear, doesn't move even on a decent size hill.
