So I was getting my new tires and during the front end alignment I asked the specialist to let me take a look underneath my Bronco 22 Wildtrak Sas.
I noticed that there was a leak at 48k miles.
Contacted dealer for appointment, got a called that it needs to be replaced, lucky me still under warranty. I will see how it goes, but happy that there was no fuzz. :fingerscrossed:

At this point it wouldn't surprise me if the fix for any leak like that would be just to R/R the whole diff. I noted an output shaft leak on the t-case of my Grand Cherokee and took it in while it was still under warranty. They just replaced the whole damn thing.

that's what they are doing replacing the MD210, at least that's what the service department guy told me when he called me

My point was that the service department may have just seen that it was leaking and made the determination to R/R without actually determining why it was leaking and potentially fixing the issue with the leak with a new seal. They don't seem to actually repair anything anymore, just swap out parts and assemblies.

with those scratches on the skid plate they could easily say it was abused no warranty the way things are going now, or just normalize the seepage which is also a newish Ford tactic....

I wonder if it’s just the pinion seal leaking. My 22 WT did that and they just replaced the seal. I found out that it was common in reading here.

Wholesale cost on a front differential is less than the time to pull it apart and reseal everything.
Yep, we have reached a tipping point with high domestic labor costs and extreme low outsourced production costs.
New is cheaper than rebuilding, we truly are a disposable society.

Ford still has us rebuilt most assemblies, this FDU is an exception really.

How about the transfer case or manual tranny? Just wondering since it seems like I’ve seen those being replaced also, maybe different issue.

I have noticed the drive shaft and cv axles are replaced for a torn boot.
We used to rebuild simple items like break cylinders rather than replace. I must say it’s nicer to swap something than rebuild it, that’s for sure.

You're right, that's what they did, they RnR the pinion seal, drove it, no leak noted, they are dropping my bronco at home. I'll see and check for leaks after driving for at least 100 miles or sooner.
