2026 4-dr non-SAS Badlands w/2.3L manual. Recently drove from San Jose to LA on the I5 freeway (~375 miles one way). Speed was between 60 and 85, depending on traffic (semi-truck passing semi-truck at speed 1mph faster). Really loved using my ACC. MPG was about 18.5mpg down/back. Around town I am getting about 17-18mpg. I still only have 2400 miles on it, so hopefully it will improve slightly. Speed and wind do play a major factor in my mpg. I am pretty sure I could get over 20mpg if I drove below 70mph.

Anyone else get less MPG on the highway vs in town driving?
2025 Big Bend - in town driving average 21.9 MPG, but on the highway it drops to 20 MPG.
Normally, in every other vehichle I've owned the MPG increases on the highway.

The only way I get 21.9 mpg around town is if I average 60mph in a school zone.

Have you calibrated your computer? The computer mileage isn't accurate unless it's been calibrated, mine read 6% high.

I definitely get worse on the highway than around town, but I also figured out what is a major issue with highway driving, it's the left lane dicks! I can easily average over 18 MPG on the highway doing between 80 & 85 as long as no one is in front of me. But as soon as you get the idiots that don't know how to keep right except to pass you are screwed. It's the constant slow down, speed up, slow down again, speed back up. That's what kills my mileage.

Yeah re computed MPG, it’s always too optimistic.
I do the miles per gallon math right after a fill up at the gas pump and the real MPG with my 2.7 AT is always at least a half a mile per gallon lower than computed on the infotainment screen.

Yes.

23.5 in town. About 21 on the freeway. Bronco is a brick.

Only vehicle I have ever owned that gets worse MPG on the Freeway.


Also, unless you are going downhill, you get better mpg in 5th than 6th since 6 causes the engine to lug.

My MPG (Badlands, Procal, 35’s) is running 18.7 on the long average. The most impactful thing for me is speed on the highway. Over 70 it drops significantly. Like from 20-21 to 16-17.

How in the world are you guys getting decent MPGs? If I went 75-80 on the highway my MPG would drop like crazy. My tires are 315/70 KO2’s at 34 cold.

Yep, that will do it. These square bricks don't reward you when you push them faster than 65-70.

Checking in here. I am constantly amazed at the mileage I am getting. 4dr heritage 7mt with 1800 mi on the odometer. Averaging 22 combined. More around town than highway recently. I do coast down big hills and try to shift out of 1st/2nd/3rd by 1900-2200 rpm, but aside from that I drive pretty normally. Highway is always kept between 65 and 72.

80 mph is too high for the Bronco, you need to keep it under 75 (70 or less if hoping for ok mpg). In the 65-68 range I can get 20 mpg with my base 2 dr 2.7 Sas lifted with 37's but I also have some mods that help (exhaust, intercooler, charge pipes, FPP tune, CVF intake, GPE TB). In the 58-62 range I can get 22 mpg with no stop traffic. I keep track of all gas and miles so it's a real calculation, the computer is at least .5 to 1 mpg overly optimistic.

Normally 80 MPH highway.

Once I pass 75mph I usually go under 20mpg I try to stay around 68ish 2dr badlands non sasquatched aftermarket bumper w/ winch
