Hey folks posting some photos from a minor modification of central console lid. , I didn't like that on my LUX package every time I was opening the central console lid it was just falling back like so cheap. So by cutting and foreshortening the springs the lid is more stable

I can't believe no one else responded to this.

Thank you for posting! This fixes exactly what I wanted!

So cutting the spring made it pop up by itself? I’m not sure what that 2nd picture is that you posted. Can you elaborate some more? Thanks!!

Ok I need to do this. It seems like it’s always falling down on me even when I’m on an incline. I don’t think mine has a spring in it?

It should have 2 according to the parts diagram. But mine is the same way, doesn't feel like one is even there and just easily falls down.

you need to cut springs from both sides, by cutting springs as I did on the picture you making it shorter which creates more tension, but beside cutting you need to bend it in the same factory way which will require a lot of strength of your hands :). It will be more understandable if take out the back cover of central console you visualize the springs.

You have them but they are loose , doing nothing , I am not sure why ford did that to us , but making those springs a little shorter will help

Awesome mod @drvahe 🙌

This bothers me to no end 🤬! What an egregious oversight!? The center console lid is always falling down when trying to access it, save for if the front of the vehicle is uphill, then you get stabbed by the latch beam.

Hoping one of us can spec a direct OEM swap replacement for the torsion spring but with a stronger force/resistance spec, different angle between legs, wire diameter, etc. Anyone look into this already? It has been some years since I've spec'd springs and am forgetting my go-to sources. Century Spring was one of them I believe...

I was thinking of adding a soft closing hinge some day like the one in F150

I wish there was a shorter one to purchase also- I tried to do @drvahe 's modification, but I wasn't able to bend the spring hooks. He even says "it will require a lot of strength" and I simply don't have enough. I put the cut off spring in a vise grip and used channel locks on the hook end and gave it everything I had to no avail!

Can parts master @flip help us out?
