For those who may have painted theirs - is there a best way to remove it? I don't want to ham hand the thing and scratch the paint! thanks

This thread reminds of an incident my late father caused himself....

I was home on a mid tour in 2003, he had bought a brand new 2002 Explorer the fall prior. He bought a light-up Ford emblem online (that was a big deal then!) and was going to replace the badge on the back of the car. If you guys know the badge on that generation was attached to the upper liftgate. Which was all glass... he was going to drill through it so the wires would be hidden. I warned him it wouldn't work... then a few revs of the drill later... rear glass everywhere! I felt bad laughing as he was pissed and dejected, but being a dad now I would expect my kids to do that to me.

Now I am on a mission to find one of the photos I know I have of this somewhere.

Found it! On another message board I have been part from before this incident. lol

He was using a special diamond bit made for glass right? Even so, I would never do it.

THey changed it so they can convince people to spend that $410 on a backlit logo.

Considering it's pushing 35 years old, I can't complain. The grille badge on my '89 Bronco. Guess they don't make 'em like they used to...

Masking tape around the emblem. Heat gun, then fishing line. Finally use a plastic trim tool to pry off and break two fasteners.

Superglue works well when you break the thin chrome oval as you’re disassembling the emblem to paint.

The new logo looks great! The chrome logo is out of date.
It’s actually been out of date for quite some time. My guess is that since Bronco was conceptualized in the mid 10s, they incorporated the chrome logo only for it to be out of date around the same time it was released.

Just look at the new logo compared to the old. The new logo is a fresh clean look, while the chrome one looks like something from 20 years ago.

I'm not a huge fan of chrome, but replacing the ring with black plastic looks cheap. If anything it should be matte black metal if they want a more modern look.
you hit the nail on the head....'cheap' is the new version of 'quality' at Ford. I chuckle every time I get in my Bronco and see the fine interior appointments present in a $55k vehicle. I walked right into P.T. Barnums quote.

Blue oval on rear is fine, but it’s long past time to drop if from the front. Letters on the hood or grille would look better.

This video is helpful. The thin blue plastic ring is the one to be careful with.

A remarkably even split here in the vote.
